View Full Version : Anne's Diary
Hi there this is my first time on here so hello to you all.
I have just started on the low carb diet thanks to one of my lovely daughters. Nothing else has worked on me and since I am putting out tooo much insulin we thought I might give this a try.
I am 5'1" and have ballooned to 128kg and nothing seems to work for me when it comes to getting the weight off, I loose a bit then gain a lot over and over again :(
I am hoping that this works for me so that I can get out of having a weight reduction operation ( staples or stomack bypass as my Dr has suggested)
I would really like to lose between 15 and 20 kilos before October if possible
I've gone from having tea and toast for breaky to a big meal of bacon and eggs with some mushy's, I've never done this before
Anne
Hi Mum
Now that wasnt too hard was it :D
I too am going to bed now. speak to you tomorrow.

Hi Anne
Welcome to the forum. You are lucky to have someone so close helping you out. I am sure this will work for you, and you won't have to worry about any operations. I have lost 36kgs all thanks to this WOL. So I know you can do it too.
Cheers

Mum ???
Well Mrs Jus - welcome to the forums !! :D
Im sure you will find us all to be friendly bunch - im hoping to hear more of you on the forums as the months go by ( and the weight drops off !!! :D)
Make sure you tell Mr Jus to regieter son !! :D
Cheers,
thanks everyone for your support. Especially Gizmo and RBB. I may need it although I am finding this really easy to stick to.
My ultimate goal is around the 60kg mark give or take a few because I am not a big person underneith all this excess. But I am only setting myself at 15 - 20 kilo weight loss at a time so the hurdle doesn't seem as big and I give up. I hope this is a good idea anyway.
My leg is in plaster at the moment and finding it very difficult to get about so if anyone has any stationary exercises please feel free to pass them along. Any and all help is needed here.
I started today off with 2 strips of bacon, 1 egg, and 1/2 grilled tomato plus 1 tea black no milk or sugar.
For lunch I had 1 slice of ham, lettuce, cucumber, 1/2 tomato and 1 slice of cheese 1 tea.
Dinner I had lightly fried chicken breast, broccoli, zuccini, cauliflower, and cabbage dressed with white sauce made from thickened cream and cheese and 1 tea and I have had 4 glasses of water through the day.
My hubby says he can't see anyone losing weight eating like this.

Welcome Anne .
I was born in 1954 as well . One of my daughters is trying Atkins as well . writing a dairy really helps to keep track of want we eat .
You will get lots of support and good ideals .
Use the tape measure as the scales may not give the true picture of want you are lossing . plus I use a pair of pants that I can not get into .

Hi Anne..
your menu sounds great.
I remember when i first started thinking the same thing your hubby did. "How can you possibly lose weight eating bacon, eggs, all that meat, etc.."
Once the kgs melt off, Mr Jus will have to take back what he has said !! :D
Any way you tackle it is the right way - whatever keeps you motivated is the way forward. If small hurdles is the preferred method, then great.
Good luck with it all, and i look forward to hearing your results as the weeks go on...

hi anne,
welcome to the forum, as matt says we're all very friendly and you'll get a lot of support here, although you have family support too, which makes it so much easier! mr jus will certainly be eating his words soon (ba boom) when he sees you shrinking before him!!
i know that your leg is in plaster, which may hinder trips to the bathroom ;) but do try to drink more water...it seems like a big ask for a while but your body gets used to it, you feel better for it and that's probably the best exercise tip i can give you, the trips to the loo! how long are you in plaster for? you might have to wait until you are more mobile then go for short walks then build up. it's not recommended to do any high intensity exercise when low carbing.
your menu looks delish, good luck with it and keep posting, it's so exciting seeing other people's success!

Hello and welcome Jus's mum!! As I am sure you can see everyone here is a very friendly bunch, with plenty of good advice. I only starting low carbing 3 weeks ago but so far I am feeling great and losing cm's! As ladybird said, it is a great idea go by the tape measure and not just the scales - my scales have only moved a little whereas I have noticed cm's coming off everywhere.
Your menu does sound great, stick at it and the results will follow VERY SOON:D And drinking water is the key I think .......
Thanks everyone for your support.
Well Jus does do her best to keep me on track even though she is way out in the red centre.
Have stuck to the diet today and have been drinking more water but its not easy having to get down 8 steps to go to the loo and bathroom, especially when in a hurry.
I will measure myself tonight and keep a check on my weight loss that way.
Here's keeping the fingers crossed that it will work on me.

Hi everyone thanks for your encouragement and I do understand Matt I have a son who is trying very hard to loose weight as well and he was 150kg at his highest I think he is around 130 now
but yes girls I do believe it is much harder for women to loose weight then men. My hubby can drop it very quick.
I can't be too hard on him he brought me home a new beaut George Foreman grill Health grill today and I didn't even ask for it, that was nice of him
Well today I had 3 bacon rashers and 1 egg with 2 cups of tea for Breaky.
Lunch I had salmon, lettuce, cucumber, and tomato with 1 cup of tea
at 3.30 I had a small glass of milk don't know why I rarely drink milk.
For Dinner I'm having broccoli, zuccini, cauliflower, cabbage and 1 pork chop and my 1 cup of tea.
So far today I have had 5 x 285ml glasses of water
I don't know what the carb count is on all that but I do know I shouldn't have had the milk
Hey you folk do realise that men go through menopause too so maybe they do suffer PMT symptons ha ha

Tell me what you think of the grill when you use it.
I have a health grill but a different brand, Sunbeam.
Anyway I only used it once, it takes forever to cook meat, I hate it!.
Hi Sherrie
Well I used it tonight and it cooked great. it took me 9 min to cook the pork chops. I like pork to be cooked well. It drains better than the other brands as well.
I did have a smart grill before, it cooked well enough but only lasted 12 mths
Anne
well Jus has made me post my stats as I measured myself this morning. Don't be too shocked. I can't remeber the last time I measured any part of my body. Well here goes
Wrist - 17cm
Forearm – 31cm
Waist - 124cm was 62 when i got married
Thigh - 72cm
Hips - 165cm Whoooh there
Under bust - 109cm
Bust - 125cm

Hi Anne...
Its good to have the measurements up as it gives a good reference point for when the punds start to fall off...
So far it sounds you are doing great !! Keep it up..
sambalam
17-07-2003, 08:58 AM
hi anne, as matt says, it's great to be able to have the first measurements there as a reference point, because you will be AMAZED when you see cms melting away. it's such a inspiring feeling, and helps when the scale doesn't want to play :(
you are doing well, you picked yourself up on the milk! don't forget that your tea counts as 2.5g of carbs each cup. that's just the tea.
how sweet of your hubbie, it's great that he is helping you. i'd love one of those grills, our oven griller is broken, if you light it you set fire to most of your hair. not really useful. keep up the good work anne!!
pistachio
17-07-2003, 10:14 AM
Hi Anne,
I know the feeling when doing the measuring, but you'll be very happy when you can actually see the cm's coming off. I personally have not noticed much on the scales but have lost around 6 cm's from waist and 2 from thighs - if I hadn't measured I would have become a bit disolusioned with my progress.
It looks like you are doing great
GO MUM!!!!
I told you no one would care :D :D :D :D
just remember daughter knows best ALWAYS!
and remember what sam said about the tea. I couldnt remember how many carbs were in it as I dont drink it.
speak to you later
ahh hummm I thought all good little girls with excellant jobs were supposed to be working.
Yes Jus the hardest part was actually putting it in the diary.
I can't get over 1 cup of tea having 2.5g of carbs What am I supposed to drink beside water.
The milk I had yesterday actually gave me a head ache, so serves me right
I don't get my cast off until the 29th July. I have to keep it elevated most of the time as the physio put it on too tight around the foot.
Well if the cm fall off me as they have you guy's and girls than I will be happy.
see u all later
sambalam
17-07-2003, 02:05 PM
hee hee hee jus you got dobbed on!!!!
anne, if you count your teas posted it comes to 10 carbs, half your allowance if you are doing induction! here's a tip: i started having really weak tea, reusing the tea bag and using cream and splenda. i also love herbal teas, although they have 2.5g carbs too, but i did the same thing, basically dipped the bags in and out and reused them.
really, water is it and it is very important too. when your body goes into ketosis, it starts to get rid of water at a rapid rate, so you need to replace it, and then some! i get thirsty if i don'thave at least 2 litres a day. i'm usually around 3+. you can't really spend too much time up and down to the loo, so try putting some lemon or lime in the water to slow its progress through your body. once your cast is off there'll be no stopping you!

Hi Anne ,
I drink water , decafe coffee , very weak black tea and diet tonic water with a slice of lemon . ( signature Range ) is the only tonic I like . You can get it from Action , But it must be really cold .
Lady bird :)
hey there! My mind isn't backward yet you know, but I get your drift pet.
Well I sat down and worked out my food count today
I consumed 23.9 carbs and 94.6 Carbohydrates
I had to much tomato and egg today
hubby wanted steak and eggs for dinner and I added tomatoe to it
I will have to make up for it tomorrow
By the way my cup of tea is black no sugar no milk and that only has .5 carbs in it per cup
Hi lady bird is there anywhere else you can get the tonic from we don't have an action here

Hi Anne ,
I don't know , as I can only get it at Action down here at Tweed Heads . Just ask they might be able to get it for you .
Lady bird
Thanks Ladybird
I'll ask around the shops here and see if they can get me some.
Well I haven't weighed myself yet and I won't until the 29th. I am going to measure myself again on Wednesday although I have noticed my wrists and fingers are getting thinner.
I broke my diet yesterday only because I had to go to tamworth and back or the day.
I took some food with me and even took my lemon tea. but my grandson made me have my salad on a bun just like him and I couldn't refuse him. Then we were so late coming home that hubby ordered in Chicken and chips for dinner "that I paid for" I was so sick today it wasn't funny. I had the closest thing to Bali belly that I have ever had I think.
Well I stuck to it today where I could to sick to eat much of anything, but have drank gallons of water.

Hi Anne...
Great to hear that you only gave in once and got right back into it...shows good willpower and determination...
Have you got yourself and Ketosis sticks to see if you are still in Ketosis ?? They are another god form of motivation when they turn purple...when they dont, well....
you can get them from any chemist - usually called "Keto-stix" or something similar..
Hi Matt
thanks for the encouragement. yes I am finding it really easy to stay on this diet. I never feel hungry and as yet haven't really had any cravings except for that glass of milk.
I have the keto stix. I am having a little bother. I am always almost off the negative end. Is that good or bad.
Anne
Gizmo
25-07-2003, 01:15 PM
As long as you are measuring some ketosis (no matter how much or little) then that is good..
Too many things affect the reading to worry about whether you should be excreting high amounts of ketones or low..
If you are in Ketosis - congrats !!! Doesnt matter how much..
If you arent - could be some hidden carbs or sugars in your diet...
Sherrie
25-07-2003, 01:21 PM
Some people have trouble getting readings no matter how good they are. If you are one of them, then go by how your body feels and the weightloss.
Are you steadily losing weight?, if so keep doing what your doing.
thanks Matt
I won't worry so much about that then. I have no sugars in my diet and the only carbs I get is from the vegies and I only eat the ones that are very low in carbs so I should be right then.

25-07-2003, 02:29 PM
you'll be fine Anne..
Dont worry as much about the food. You know what you can and cant eat, let the rest take care of itself.
You are doing great for first time - keep it up !! Dont look back, and dont hold a calculator when you eat !! :D
Hello Boof???
Why arent you writing??? I know your doing good so what is the go??? Will call you tonight.
Hello midget widget
well i am writing in my diary again so stop pestering me. Daughters!!!
Sorry i haven't been on lately but have been very busy writing out wedding invitations, all by hand for my son and have only just finished them.
NOW! I have only 8 weeks left to get rid of some weight fast so that I can look some way towards decent for the wedding, instead of a big blob.
I still haven't weighed myself but my clothes seem a lilltle looser. But for some reason all my skin is starting to go dry and I am looking a little wrinkled . Does this mean I am not drinking enough water.
I have had a couple of slips where I didn't cook dinner but have stuck to the diet pretty well I think so far but I do wish it would start to show it soon.
I have finally got the cast off. However I have to keep using the crutches until the end of Aug when I see the specialist again and in the mean time I have to stay off the leg as much as possible.
Anne
well I've decided that I will write in my diary everything I eat each day so that if I slip up someone will hopefully pull me back into line.
I really need to get rid of some of this excess before the 4 october.
today for breakyI had
1 egg omolette and 1 cupo of tea
mid morning
1 cup of coffee
lunch
half a cup of lettuce
1/4 cup grated cheese
1/2 tomato
4 sticks asparagras
1 sm tin salmon
1 tea
mid afternoon
1 cup of tea
1 small slice of cake
dinner
sm serve of cauliflower
sm serve broccoli
1 sm zuccini
1 grilled chicken breast
1 cup of coffee
11.00pm 1 large glass of water
Now I know the cake was a NO NOOOO but I have had a headache for 5 days and after having the cake it has gone.
maybe a lack of sugar?? any ideas because I don;t want to resort to cake to get rid of headaches.
Do you think my diet today was ok (not mentioning the cake)
I still haven't weighed myself but my clothes do seam a little looser. I would still like to see it move a bit faster though.
Do you think that I am eating too much.
I know I still am not drinking enough water I will have to remedy that.
The reading on the keto stix still haven't moved they are at 0.5
Gizmo
07-08-2003, 07:52 AM
Hey Anne..
looks OK to me - you definetely need some more water though...
Are you having the flaxseed oil ??
Naughty on the cake !! :D If the headache stopped, it couldve been sugar/carb cravings...these usually go after a few days.
Try and take some panadol or nurofen next time instead of the cake... ;) :o
Moonie
07-08-2003, 09:30 AM
Yes you definetely need more water, lots of it. 8 big glasses would be the minumum. I would think you are badly dehydrated and that can contribute to your headache.
The reason water is more important on this way of eating is that the diet is naturally diuretic, so you must replace that water and some...
If you aren't taking flax seed oil go out and get some, this is ideal for skin and hair as well as helping with wieght loss.
Everything else looks ok (except for the cake), order in some POH muffin mix so you can have that with you cuppa...
Hang in there I am sure you will great by Oct 4th;)
Hi there
Well I did try panamax but it didn't do anything for the headache.
thanks Gizmo and Moonstruck
I agree with you I do need lots of water more than I have been having as my skin is looking a bit wrinkled. Never had that before.
No I haven't got the Flax Seed Oil yet but I do intend to get some. If it tastes so bad and the goodness of it goes if heated how do you have the stuff?
Now I have a question about Durathon. I am on Avapro and Aldactone for my High Blood pressure and my Doctor won't let me have anything to kick start the metabolism. Do you know or think that Duraton would hurt if I used it?
This morning I have had 2 egg omolette and 1 coffee for breaky and I have had 1 large glass of water.
I meant Durathon not duraton
Sherrie
07-08-2003, 11:27 AM
Durathon is not a stimulant so I'd assume it would be okay but I would check to be sure.
They have a web site, should be:
www.durathon.net
or
www.durathon.net.au
Thanks Sherrie.
I will go in and look. I just think I may need something to kick it along a bit.
OK Sherrrie this is what I found obn the Web site. Doesn't sound like it could be harmfull and it just may help me out a bit so I think I may give it a try.
I have posted the below information incase anyone else is interested.
DURATHON is a safe and effective catalyst for Weight Loss."
DURATHON consists of the Chinese herb, ciwujia, grown at high altitude in the Asia Pacific region. Studies have indicated that ciwujia increases fat utilization by the body during activity.
So while you exercise, DURATHON shifts your fuel source from carbohydrate metabolism to fat metabolism. Using DURATHON with a sound diet and exercise plan will assist in burning unwanted stores of body fat.
DURATHON is different from most weight loss or fat metabolizing supplements as it is drug free and does not contain any stimulant or thermogenic agent
Supplements containing stimulants or thermogenic compounds such as ephedrine can also increase blood pressure, anxiety and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
DURATHON is not a stimulant meaning the same dose will continue to be effective every day. You do not need to 'cycle' or cease taking DURATHON.
Designed by Australia's foremost authority on drug testing and sports, DURATHON is the answer to safe and effective Weight Management.
DURATHON's UNIQUE WEIGHT LOSS PROPERTIES:
Increase the amount of fat burnt during activity. Fat Utilization rate of 3% can increase to 46%.
Reduce lactic acid build up by as much as 33%
Increase anaerobic threshold by up to 12%.
Increase total energy and extend the duration of mental concentration
Hi Anne
Another remedy for headaches is migrastick. You can get it from the chemist and it is a natural remedy. You just dab it on your forehead and temples. It really does work. Even doubting husband is a convert.

Just a note on the Durathon- I tried to buy some and the health food store said they were part of that big vitamin recall. They told me they would not have any for 8 weeks (that was about 3 weeks ago). But I am in Adelaide, other states may have more luck.
Hi Pistachio and Jill
Thanks for the info on the megastick. I haven't heard of them before.
The Durathon according to the Web site is only available in WA. I ordered them over the web and will have them in a couple of days.
I think the headache may have been the beginnings of the flu even though I had the needle. I am very tight in the chest tonight and stuffy in the head
Sherrie
07-08-2003, 08:23 PM
Chew on lots of Vit C
I felt one coming on the other morning and so I did what it said on the Vit C container for flu's and chewed on 1 gram every hour for 6 hours then had another gram 3 times a day the next day and it was gone.
Hi everyone I'm back today
Thanks Sherrie I'll get some V C tomorrow as I think the ones I have are a bit old.
Felt absolutely rotten today. Have got it bad, so much for flu needles ha.
I have stuck to the PoH diet. I had broccoli, cauliflower zuccini and grilled chicken ( couldn't eat it all) with mushroom sauce for dinner last night
Breaky today 2 strips of bacon 1 poached egg and 1 coffee
Lunch
rest of my chicken breast from last night and 1 tea
and so far today I have had 1 1/2 ltrs water
Hi everyone
Well missed posting in my diary yesterday as spent most of it in bed my legs kept going on me. This bug is really nasty.
Yesterday I had 2 scrambled eggs for breaky 1 cup of coffee
Lunch I had little bit of lettuce 2 slice tomato, 1/2 slice cheese and 1 slice of silverside 1 cup of tea
Dinner was stir fry vegies and grilled chicken 1 tea
had 2 ltres if water
Breaky today 3 rashers bacon gave 1 to my youngest so only had 2 rashers of bacon 1 cup of coffee
still not well so only could ate a little bit of silverside for lunch 1/2 slice and 1 cup of tea
Have had 1 litre of water so far
measured myself again today my stats are now
Wrist - 16cm, thats down 1cm
Forearm – 29cm, down 2cm
Waist - 120cm down 4cm
Hips - 162cm down 3cm
Under bust - 105cm down 4cm
Bust - 125cm still the same
these measurments sound promising. I guess it is time I hit the scales to see what is going on there
As i have to keep off this darn ankle of mine I went out and got a Pilates Video for the Abs but it will be a long time before I will be able to follow those exercises. So my daughter gave me another one called Pilates conditioning for weight loss yesterday. I had a look at it last night and just maybe I will be able to do these ones. They look fairly easy but looking and doing are 2 different things. But I am willing to give anything a go at this stage as that 4th October is looming in pretty darn fast
Wish me luck and keep all your fingers and toes crossed for me

"Happy Birthday Anne"
"Have a lovely day"
Thanks guy's
I am having a lovely solitary day today. The 2 kids are at school and hubby is at work and I am sitting here freezing.
You would never guess what my youngest gave me for my B'Day, love her.
CHOCOLATES and CHOCOLATES
and no I am not eating them. No I tell a Lie I had one and put the rest up for when the kids come home from school.
Yes I was pleasantly shocked as I was really getting worried.
I have already bought my new outfit for Mal's wedding and I have to fit into it.
What is this "avatar" Gizmo.
Horn's and pitchfork ARGHHH !!!
I do prefer your cuter pic by the way.
I have to buy another set of scales Sherrie before I can weigh myself as threw the old ones out as they were not weighing properly, or not the same as my Dr's anyway. and I reacon by the time I pay him another $60.00 a visit I could have a new set of scales
Hey Matt if your getting sick of your little Gizmo and you really want a little devil horns and all here is one for you.

Whenever I only eat bacon that's by itself and nothing else I get a cramp in the tummy and have to make a very quick trip to the loo not long afterwards. Any reasons that you may know of for this.
Jus should be winging it back into Alice by now

it sure is, anne, good one.
funny about the bacon, if it were me i'd suspect that there was something in it that i was reacting too, like nitrate or something. is it the same kind/brand each time? and you don't get it if you eat it with something else?
looking forward to hearing how jus's holiday went:D
Sherrie

You might be on the money there Sam!
Hi Sam glad you could join in.
The bacon is just fresh bacon rashers you buy from the butchers
I can either grill or fry it and it has the same effect but if I have an egg or half a grilled tomato with it it doesn't effect me.
No it only effects me with the bacon. Could I be eating too much of it.
Oh Sht its raining gotta go
yes when Gizmo was talking about horns and pitchforks it sort of popped up on my screen so I thought I'd post it to show him.

hmmm..interesting. i haven't ever seen nitrate/chemical free/organic bacon, but i bet it's expensive!! might be worth trying to find it, or just don't eat it on it's own! but you might prefer to find out what causes it.
personally, i suspect everything when i am not feeling well, there are soooo many chemicals in our food and personal products that are not necessary and are harmful, it's quite scary.
Ok I'm back I've saved my washing touch wood.
Now another thing i've asked and no one has answered yet.
Why am I starting to look like a shriveled up prune. I've never had a wrinkle in my life just ask Jus. and now all my skin looks wrinkly Why?
Sherrie
11-08-2003, 01:14 PM
Anne I feel like I suddenly aged too with the wrinkles around the eyes. I just think it's because theres not as much fat and water filling up the wrinkles.
Yes Sam all these chemicals that are around now are scarey.
We have been buying our drinking water for years now as the town water is so crapy. We can always tell when it is bad as the council put that much chlorine etc in it that you can smell and taste it in your tea. There is no way you can drink it.
As for the nitrate/chemical free/organic bacon. never heard of it but the bacon I have been getting fluctuates between $7.98 and $13.78I usually end up paying the dearer for it. But it doesn't matter it all has the same effect on me.
OK Sherrie then I guess it means I'm not drinking enough water yet. God my bladder has never been so full before

You would never guess what my youngest gave me for my B'Day, love her.
I always get chocolates from someone for my birthday, I either eat them all at once to get them out the way, and make myself sick, or I won't open them until the grand kids are here...HaHa!! just as well I only have a birthday once a year...;)
Hi Moonstruck
Well I geuss us nannas are the same as I left mine until they came home from school then they cleaned them up for me i got off lightly by only having 3 squares of the block and out of the box I had 1 peppermint cream then the kids ate the rest so they made good vacuum cleaners
The best B'Day present I got was my 4 yr old grandson ringing me and singing Happy B'Day to me for 5 minutes. It made my day I think.

Just something to add, she substituted a cream bun for 3 pairs of shoes, she deserves a pat on the back!!!!!!
If only she'd bought another pair of jeans, she might not have had that chocolate milkshake.........;)
didn't she tell you that she bought a pair of Levi's as well.
Yes I told her she could have substituted 1 pair of those shoes for a size 8 for me but she wouldn't have it
Anne
Chocolate milkshake and she goes crook on me if I stray

So how old was the sales dude - 15 ?? (ish...)
Did he look more like Harry Potter or Bart Simpson ??
Nope I would say mid 20's for both of them...maybe a little younger. However, as I live in Alice and they are in sydney there would be NO POINT IN FLIRTING with either of them. they were just taken with my good ole country personality and the baby blues. :D ;) plus my new 'slim' shape :) :) :)
both of them were alright though...cant really remembered the details though that was how memorable the meeting were!
who knows this topic has gotten out of control and we are in my mothers diary!
I think Kegs need's to correct this before it gets me into trouble and my mum has married me off to one of them!

Your not even 50 Yet. Jeez...at least another 30 years....especially if you keep going with the weight loss!:D
I don't want to wait another 30 years Jus I want to be able to enjoy them.
Here's a bit of twisted info for you. Aj went to the chiropractor with his back today and he was telling him how he has to lose weight but was having a spot of bother getting rid of it. Well he examined him and said that he had a twist in his intestine between the small and large stomache that was stopping him from digesting his food properly therefore stopping him from losing weight. He did some poking and prodding and hurt like hell then told him he would have no trouble losing the weight that he has to in no time.
Do you think if I went to see him he could do the same with me.
sambalam
22-08-2003, 09:49 AM
only if you have a twisted intestine anne! wow my folks are 53 and they keep telling me they aren't ready to be grandparents yet. ;)
Sherrie
22-08-2003, 09:49 AM
Uh oh looks like I opened Pandoras box! :D
How do chiropracters tell if you have a twist in your intestines?
I thought they just manipluate your bones?
sambalam
22-08-2003, 10:59 AM
they can tell by the way your muscles are lying in your body, and because they need to know the muscloskeletal system ptretty well, which also determine how your organs etc sit in your body. having said that, i don't go to chiropractors anymore, i prefer physios. too many horror stories and bad experiences with chiros. but if you find a good one, you're lucky, hang onto them.
I wasn't ready when the first one was coming along either Sam but as soon as he appeared my views changed. I would rather be known as a young fun Nanna then an old grouchy one.
I was wondering how a chiropractor would know how to tell as well, thanks for enlightening me too Sam on that matter.
How could you tell if it was twisted unless you were examined.
I think I wuill stay away from all those pills. I did get some Durathon so will see how that goes
sambalam
22-08-2003, 03:10 PM
i suspect my folks are serious though, they are very much into their own lives and are quite insular people. i think they would enjoy having them when they are older more than they would now.
i don't htink you could know, unless you ate a lot of bulky food and it blocked uo (ow). i'd day he's had some gastrointenstinal complaints that he hasn't really taken much notice of, putting it down to rich food or something like that. i did the same when i had leaky gut syndrome, i thought it was just things i ate. it was!! they were escaping into my bloodstream, not exactly what i thought!
Bloody Hell Sam that sounds like it ws a bit painful.
Yes he has had stomache problems for years as he has a Hiatis Hernia and a stomache Ulcer.
Do you think that the Durathon will be any help to me?
sambalam
22-08-2003, 03:25 PM
it was sort of, i got a tummy ache every time i ate, and the undigested food caused cerebal anxiety - headaches, fogginess etc. it wasn't pretty. am fixed now. tummy healed itself when igot rid of the candida overgrowth.
so he mightn't have realised that he had another problem because those things would have masked it. now that it's fixed, he might have more success fixing the others too.
sherrie had success with durathon if i remember rightly, although it eventually wore off for her. you can only try!
Sherrie
22-08-2003, 04:18 PM
Where did you get the Durathon from Anne?
I did'nt think it was around atm because it was recalled?
I know POH don't sell it.
TBH it's just siberian ginseng so I'd rather save my money and just buy siberian ginseng.
PS: It did break a stall of mine, weightloss lasted for a month but it's never worked since.
Because it's siberian ginseng it does have other benefits, good for stamina and immune system. But after 2 months you need to cycle off for 2 months.
Hi Sherrie I ordered it over the net on this site
www.durathon.com.au
It is only available in W.A. apparentely from what I can understand. they have it on special at the moment for $4****0 for 60 tabs.
thanks for the information every bit will help.
Do you think I'm eating the right things??
Todays menu.
Breakfast- 3 bacon rashers, 1 small grilled tomato, 2 eggs 1 tea
water.
tonic water with a splash of lemon juice
Lunch - tuna, lettuve and tomato with 1 dessertspoon of 98% fat free dressing, and water
2.00pm water
3.00pm 1 coffee ( forgot to have the decafe one)
water
Dinner - cauliflower, broccoli, 1/2 zuccini, cabbage, 1 lamb chop and 1 cup of tea
Sherrie
22-08-2003, 11:24 PM
Thats a rip off, don't buy it again for that.
Whats the expiry/batch on it?
Sorry Sherrie have only just been able to get back into PoH.
The Batch # is 68117 and Expiry is 03/2004.
If that was a rip off how much is it really
Sherrie
26-08-2003, 12:09 PM
When I say rip off I mean in comparison to just buying any other siberian ginseng product of equal strength.
POH used to sell it for $39.00
I checked on TGA site, that batch is okay. I just wanted to make sure for you as that product was recalled during the PAN incident.

It's for weightloss and stamina see www.durathon.net . I looked up the herb that they are using and it's just siberian ginseng.
For comparison:
With Durathon you need to take 2 capsules. Each capsule contains Syringaresinol diglucosides 354 mcg.
But with the Golden glow siberian ginseng each capsule contains Syringaresinol diglucosides 400mcg.
To top that off Durathon is 60 caps, Golden Glow is 100 caps and Golden glow one only costs $20.65 !
Big difference in price, and it can't be due to quality since Durathon had used PAN.
Thats only one comparison too, plenty of other siberian ginseng products around. Siberian ginseng is suppossed to be the cheaper ginseng.

Just remember to avoid taking anything containing asprin if you are taking a supplement that contains ginseng. They both thin the blood and can cause problems.

Well siberian ginseng is known more for it's tonic (immune system, stamina etc) affect rather then weightloss.
But that said when I had durathon it did seem to help for the first month then after that nothing.
It is a great tonic though. If you do have it you need to cycle it. Say have it for one or two months then stop for same amount of time.
Well I still don't think that I am loosing it fast enough and am getting a bit worried. I need to get my stomache to shrink a bit as I have what is called an apron and it is rather noticeable and hard to get something on that doesn't show it too much.
I have been sticking to the diet strictly so here's hoping except for when I had lunch at Maca's yesterday.

thanks L2BS. Do you think I'm eating too many carbs
sambalam
27-08-2003, 03:28 PM
personally anne, i'd give the tea and coffee a rest, or at least cut down and do decaf. caffeine does cause insulin spikes. it looks like you are getting just the right amount of carbs but thats hard to tell unless you are measuring and counting everything. sometimes things slow down then sped up, unfortunately that is up to your body, nothing else!
OK thanks Sam. I will just go back to drinking water then.
I haven't been measuring everything.
I have 1/2 to 1 tomato per day
1 floweret of broccoli if it was mashed it might fill a tablespn
the same with cauliflower
1/2 a small zuccinni
4 - 5 mushy's when I have them
when I have cheese it is about a tablespn of grated mozzerella
1 -2 eggs usually poached
my bacon is grilled as is all my meat
so me thinks it really must be the coffee and the tea although I drink more tea than coffee. Only because hubby will pour me a cup instead of letting me have my lemon infusion
sambalam
27-08-2003, 03:49 PM
maybe try upping the lower carb vegies (like broccoli, cauli, mushies, zucchini, spinach) because they are good for fibre, nutrients and you can have quite a bit for little carb. eg 1 cup of cauli (raw) is 4g carbs and that's quite a bit! you should try to get most of your carbs from vegies - 2 cups salad and 1 cup vegies or vice versa per day. it's great that you aren't overdoing it on the cheese. but i do think you need to watch your caffeine intake. be careful with herbal teas, some do contain caffeine and the fruit ones aren't good. i put a tablespoon of lemon juice into hot water and find this is really nice and very low carb.
maybe for a couple of days work out your carbs and see if you are under? it could be that. tell hubby he is standing in the way of you and your goal and to start making you lemon tea!

ACK don't drink the orange juice, that will take you straight out of ketosis. Fruits with the exception of mainly berries and rhubarb are just as bad as sugar.

Keep in mind that tea contains caffiene aswell.
Heres a site that will give you a rough idea on how much:
http://www.anzfa.gov.au/whatsinfood/caffeine/index.cfm
According to that 1 cup of tea may contain more then a can of coke!
Thanks Sherrie. You were right about the OJ it took me right off the negative end of the keto stix.
I have decided to stick to my lemon infusion. It is Caffiene free, so I shouldn't get into any trouble there.
It has always been hard for me to lose weight. It has always been the same didn't matter what diet I was on and I have tried them all or most all.
Well I am back, has anyone missed me?
I have been very good stuck to the diet like a stickler.
I have cut out the coffee except for today. I visited my sister and she made me a cup of coffee.

Well I was given this great book on Saturday. It is called The Power of PROTEIN Low carb and High protein diet by Chris Smith.
For anyone just starting this L/C diet it is great, it explains everything from your 20% - 30% Carbs to the 70% protein. It has the rules to follow. It has a guide to follow in the induction period. It lists your proteins and the vegies and what their carb values are explains about caffeine, water, sweeteners (Stevia is the best, it has no carbs), etc. It really makes the diet very easy to understand and follow, and it simplifies everything to make for easier reading. It also has 60 easy recipes.

For anyone just starting this L/C diet it is great, it explains everything from your 20% - 30% Carbs to the 70% protein
20% carbs would be too high for ketosis wouldn't it?
Hi Sam
You could be right but according to this Power of Protein book it says that if you need to loose
.........5 - 10 kg ....................10 - 15gms carb per day
.........10 - 20 kg ..................15 - 18 gms
........20 - 40 kg .................18 - 25gms
........40 - 50kg .................. 20 - 30 gms
to my way of thinking I have to loose at least 40 - 50kg so I come in the last one. But then again it also says that you should read on the keto stix Moderate to large and I am lucky to read the 0.05 on the stix so you could be right.
this must mean I need to eat less carbs. Does that seem right to you
Thanks Gizmo but the menues seem pretty boring to me.
I have cut out all drinks with caffeine in them now. I think I'm turning into a real health fanatic.
I certainly have a lot more energy then I did have and I am getting around a lot better, even with my gummy ankle. Now that one is a problem. have had the cast off for about 3 weeks now and the thing is still really tender and now starting to swell. I was hoping it was only fluid but the other one isn't swelling so can't be that
sambalam
10-09-2003, 11:12 AM
first of all, i am totally against going under 20g of carbs full stop. your brain needs that minimum amount of glucose to function. so i believe it is important to stay at 20g at least. i don't see how scientifically they can say to lose X amount of weight you need X amount of carbs. being in ketosis is what creates the weight loss, whether you get a reading or not. some people can have 50g carbs and still lose. some might lose faster than others on more or less, i believe this is a highly individual thing anne. sorry to be a downer, but that table looks like bunk, i can't think of how they would've worked that out. stick to 20-25g and make sure all your carbs are mostly coming from low carb vegies.
Thanks Sam well looks like I better watch what I am eating more carefully then .
Sherrie
10-09-2003, 11:19 AM
Not only that, 70% protien is going to keep you out of ketosis aswell. Any excess protien will be converted to glucose.
The whole idea of ketosis is by switching our bodies from glucose burning mode to fat burning mode.
But are you eating 70% of your calories from protien?
But that said how is your weightloss lately? <--- this is more important then ketosis.
Sherrie
10-09-2003, 11:21 AM
Hmmm do you mean 20-30% carbs, 70% protien or 20 - 30g carbs, 70g protien?
I meant 20 - 30 % Carbs to 70% protein or that is what the book says
goingfor it

Gosh Anne, I feel the headache, I was so up in the air for a few weeks, wondering if what I was doing was right, a=especially when I wasn't losing weight!! Tough it out, and you will work out what works for you, and get more of a feel for what puts you i and out. Let yourself experiment a little, you are in it for the long haul, so making a few changes every now and again wont make or break you, and you might discover something that reallyworks for you.
Just keep at it
BTW How much water are you drinking?
G4it
I drink between 1 1/2 to 2 ltrs a day as well as tonic water
but I have just worked out my carbs and I am only eating about 15 - 20 grams carbs a day
sambalam
11-09-2003, 04:15 PM
anne see if you can get at least 2 lit or even 2.5. lots of water is important. did your headache happen after cutting out caffiene?? that usually triggers headache withdrawal.
definitely get 20g min. very important.
Sherrie
11-09-2003, 04:18 PM
So does dehydration
No I Have been off the caffeine for over a week. it could be the water I suppose. I'll have a go at drinking more of it and see how I go. Are my carbs too low do you think?
Sherrie
11-09-2003, 06:00 PM
Keep your carbs at 20g Anne, try not to go under.
Thanks Sherrie. I think that has been what's happening. I added up what I would have been going to eat today counting dinner and it only came to 15 carbs so I will go put more broccoli on for myself
Sherrie
11-09-2003, 06:47 PM
If you want to bring your carbs up 5g on broccoli you will need to eat 1 kg of it! :D
Well Sherrie Ha.. ha.. I doubled my broccoli and that only brought me up to 18.5 carbs. But it was oh soo much broccoli. I couldn't do that again, it was too much so I might start having a little bit of carrot . What do you think about that? I also added jelly and cream which came to another 3gms carbs so that brings it to 21.5 grams carbs.
Sherrie
12-09-2003, 02:10 PM
Hehe broccolli is much better for when your are having trouble getting as low as 20g :)
It's a lifesaver when you get to the stage that your hungry alot, great tummy filler!
If your having trouble getting as high as 20g and you are definately eating enough then go for it but no fruit or sugar!
Don't forget to weigh those meat slices for me so we can see if your having a big enough portion.
HI Sherrie, I weighed the silverside 2 slices weighed 100gm
I sweetened the cream with splenda and whipped it.
Sherrie
12-09-2003, 02:32 PM
Corned?
Sherrie
12-09-2003, 02:54 PM
Either way I don't think your eating enough for your lunch, let me show you.
100g Corned Silverside (Boiled), Lean: 130 calories, 3.5g Fat, 25.5g Protien, 0 carbs
100g " " " , With fat:
204 calories, 13g fat, 22g protien 0 carbs
100g Silverside Baked, Lean:
177 calories, 4.5g fat, 34g protien 0 carbs
100g " " With fat:
231 calories, 11.5g fat, 31.5g protien 0 carbs
So from that you could be having anywhere from 130 calories to 231 calories. Two slices of tomatoe and 2 lettuce leaves won't really change that.
Your also not snacking from what I can tell so I would assume unless your breakfast and dinner are both enourmous, you are not eating enough.
If it's corned then your probably looking at 1200-1500mg of sodium just from that so it's up to you if you want to add another slice. You could otherwise add a couple of boiled eggs to it.
Yes it is corned boiled silverside
Sometimes I have 2 slices of soccer ball ham instead or I might have some tinned red salmon but the lettuce tomato and cheese intake is still the same.
Breakfast I usually have
3 slices of bacon and 1 fried egg or
2 fried eggs and 1/2 fried tomato or sometimes
I will add 3 fried mushrooms to them or
like this morning I had 2 boiled eggs and 1 bottle of water
Dinner I usually have chicken breast grilled as I prefer that to other meats.
and the vegies are always the same broccoli, cauliflower, somestimes zuccini, sometimes cabbage boiled
Sherrie
12-09-2003, 03:25 PM
1/2 a chicken breast I would assume is around 150g:
236 calories 7.5g fat 42.8g protien 0 carbs
The protien count there is good so more chicken me be just a waste.
I tried to work out the value for your breakfast but there is so many different variations on the bacon it's hard to say. You might want to just have a look at the values for bacon on diet club to get an idea.
In regards to the other breakfast choice a large 'fried' egg is (if it's poached it's value would be much less):
137 cals 11.1g Fat 8,5 protien and 0.3 carbs
So almost 300 cals for 2 fried eggs. Fried 1/2 tomatoe won't add too much more.
So on the days you have this for breaky your calories could be only around the 1000 mark which is'nt much.
Hmm it might be a good idea to snack but add atleast a boiled egg to your lunch aswell.
luv2bslim
12-09-2003, 05:52 PM
Anne, do you feel hungry during the day? Maybe you should eat more.
I didn't realize I was supposed to weigh or count anything( ready to be shot down in flames now) as the aitkins book I read was the old version which said eat as much as you like, and I thought it sounded so good, thats what I did, and to tell the truth (don't tell anyone) thats what I still do :-)
So maybe, because we are bigger girls, it works that way for a while.
Maybe thats worth a try for a few weeks, eat more and see if you lose less...
Good luck
cheers

PS have a great weekend
Hi Sherrie , L2Bs
The eggs are sometimes poached or boiled, But usually fried in the pan while I cook Mushrooms in it.
I don't often get hungry but the other day I did, Wednesday I think, so I Boiled 6 eggs and kept them in the fridge I had 2 for breaky on Friday and I have used 3 to snack on and there is still one in the fridge.
I am getting around more and doing a bit of gardening now which is good.
I didn't realise that you had to weigh the food either. I don't have the book I have only been doing what Jus has told me or what I have found out from you guys on the net. So maybe I had better start weighing and measuring everything for a while anyway.
