After reading about not letting your HR get over 70% when you are low carbing I have decided that i would give it a go. After my weight stagnating for the past few weeks I have noticed that my weight loss is on the move again since I have started slowing down my exercise.
Even though I get the whole concept of why we shouldnt exercise to hard, my mindset tells me that I still need to run or walk faster than what I am.
So really i am wanting to know if others have had success stories when slowing down thier exercise and if so I would really like to hear them.
Also I am wondering if walking 2 times a day is too much exercise. Normally it is in 30-40 minute blocks.

personally i think the more cardio exercise you can get in, the better. you are going to increase your fitness and are giving your lungs and heart a work out too.
i know what you mean about slowing down doesn't seem like it will do anything. before i was low carbing, i went to a personal trainier, and i was always complaining about how slow he made me do everything, weights, cardio the whole lot. he told me it was putting less strain on my body, but the actual effort of doing stuff slowly worked my body out just as effectively as doing te exercise faster. and i didn't get as puffed! i found my stamina actually got better and when i did run, i was fine. so i can't give you a story about weight loss specifically to do with low carb and exercise, but back then it worked for me.

My first thought would be to get as much exercise as possible, but maybe that's not really the case. Personally I go for a 50min hilly walk every weekday morning (about 5km) and walk to and from work which is an extra 40-60min a day. So around 1 1/2 to 2 hours walking per day. That is usually moderate intensity ie. HR around 60%max and starting to huff and puff but not so much I can't gossip along the way! ;) I also play touch footy once a week.
So I too would be curious on other people's opinions of how much is enough/too much...

Do you have a HR monitor Debbo?
I would assume it would be fine if it was low intensity. Otherwise you'd be over taxing yourself.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say you are not sure if walking twice a day in 30 - 40 minute blocks is too much?? :confused:
As long as you can afford that amoung of time and have good shoes that give good support, what would be the problem.
My partner and I did a walking holiday overseas last year where we walked about 6 hours a day for about 15 days. Nothing untoward happened except I lost 8kg while eating like a PIG the whole time. :D

Its just in the atkins book he says not to exercise more than 4 or was it 5 times a week so your muscles have a chance to rest. So thats why I was curious if that is the case or not. But on that note I do need to go and get a new pair of shoes, but will the whiteants stop munching on my house while i save up some more money :eek:

wasn't he refering to weight training though? when you weightt rain you cause tears in the muscles which is why you need to rest between. i think with walking, unless you are doing really high intensity stuff. correct me if i am wrong.

Ok I might need to go and reread that chapter again. Thinking about it now I do remember him saying something about exercising everday so maybe he was talkign about the weights. I guess I was tired when I read that chapter.

tracey, idon't forget that if you do something repetitively, your body can get used to it. try mixing things up as well every few weeks.

Thats one of the main reasons why i think I lost so much weight this week cause i got back on my bike. I am looking forward to the local pool opening up come spring so i can do some laps as well.
