I feel like I rattle after taking all mt pills and potions through the day so i am wondering if anyone thinks I am taking to many or maybe not enough supplements

breakfast time
1 swisse multivitiam for woman
1 calcuim complete
800 mgs l-carnitine
1000 mg fish oil
1000 mg vitamin c powder

Lunchtime
1 calcuim complete

Afternoon
800 mg L-carnitine

Dinnertime
1 calcuim complete
20 mls flaxseed oil

bedtime
20 mls flaxseed oil

God that looks so much stuff when it is all written down. Oh and also take 2 naturebee capsules of a morning. I got sucked into buying these off the radio but I am only taking them because i have themand dont intend on buying anymore.

calcium 3 times a day? maybe you should try finding one that you only need once a day?

It says to take 1-4 tabs a day, I guess thats why i dont stress to much if I forget to take it later on in the day.

Sherrie

Oh after all that I had to stop those Vit C tabs as it finally dawned on me that they we're giving me a big rash when taking high doses.

Will have to find another brand.

i want to buy some l-carnitine but i can't find any at all. what brand do you guys use? i am probably going to buy some other supps as well and get it online, i think it's way cheaper. sherrie, do you use epharmacy or pharmacy direct?

I don't take anything except creatine after training and l-glutamine in my protein shake.

I absolutely HATE taking tablets (not that I don't believe they work, I just hate swallowing them) so I try and get nearly everything I need through my diet. I must be doing something right because my training is pretty heavy and I am never sick with anything.

If you want to save money you should get it in powder form and take it that way. Musuashi make L-Carnitine powders. I get mine from America when I get my B5 powder but I do know a good price for it.

50g for $44.40 or 100g for $78.90

That might seem like alot but compare that to your capsules :)

I get my l-carnitine at goldenglow and i think it is a about $20 for 50 tabs.

i think the whole supplement attitude can be a deceiving one..

Im not saying that they are useless - however, if you really, really looked into it you could take up to 15 supplements per day for all your dietry requirements for every vitamin known to man, and probably still fall short...

Who is to say that over the 30 or so years you have been living that you havent been deficient in these vitamins prior to taking supplements - however you are still alive and kicking !!

i can honestly say that i have not woken up one morning, felt a bit off and said "oh...i need another 19mg of Vitamin K". :D

As sanuk has said - there is no substitute for proper eating. Trust in that, take some basic vitamins and let the rest sort itself out...

A comment from Homer Simpson said it best..

Marge: "Homer - dont take those vitamins, they werent prescribed to you..."
Homer: "..Who knows Marge - maybe im not getting enough...(reads label)...Estrogen".

tracey, do you feel like it has done anything for you? i get what you mean matt, but each person is different. if i don't take multis i get run down and i eat really well.

I cant say that i can feel the difference but i do know that i havent been sick at all this winter(not that we had much of one up here). In reality I take the calcuim as a preventive for when i get older and the other stuff cause I have heard good things about it. Fish oil for my heart, flaxseed oil cause it is good for general health. And i do really believe the part in the atkins book about the quality of food is nowhere near as good as it use to be 100 years ago because of the degradation of the soil it is grown in.

sambalam
10-09-2003, 01:18 PM
yeh. i think that the quality of food isn't what it was at all. i'm hesitant to start buying up stuff that i don't need or won't work. i take a multi vit and flaxoil, i should take calcium, vit c (i smoke), and i am thinking of getting the fish oil too. i was thinking about l-carnitine or coenzyme Q10 because it seems more relevant.

god there is so much i didn't know about fish oil. apparently it is good for the libido too ;)

Yeah Warren is waiting for that side of it to kick in. ;)

sambalam

well according to someone here who shall remain nameless it takes about 2 weeks ;)

sambalam
10-09-2003, 01:32 PM
interestingly i just read that fish oil is a far better source of Omega 3 than linseed/flax. could you just take one and not the other then do you think?

tracye_aust
10-09-2003, 01:34 PM
2 weeks!!!!!!! He shall be dissapointed to hear that..hahahaha. Not sure on the other question but I have heard that taking flaxseed oil is better than the flaxseed capsules. I heard the person that shall remain nameless say to take them at different times.

Sherrie
10-09-2003, 01:36 PM
Yes but I was taking 2 capsules 3 times per day :)

It's wearing off now, wondering if it's the blackmores. Will order some Golden glow ones again next and see if it kicks back in again.
Needless to say if it's good enough to do that in the first place it must be of benefit to us whilst dieting as prolonged dieting can contribute to lower libido.

In regards to taking vitamins etc... it is really up to the individual. I know for a fact the B5 powder is a godsend and will be taking that shit no matter how gross it tastes for aslong as I live... :)

Mind you I've wasted money on ones before trying to find something to help with the weightloss.

Anyone know a cheap place to buy empty capsules in bulk?
:)

Sherrie
10-09-2003, 01:38 PM
In regards to the flax I've never noticed any noticable benefits from it like I did with the fish oil. I am actually considering dropping it and taking more fish oil if I can find a good price.

sambalam
10-09-2003, 01:41 PM
that's what i am thinking of doing myself. i have just been doing a bit of research and it looks like the fish oil is a far better source of EFA than flaxoil. what brand fishoil do you use tracey?

tracye_aust
10-09-2003, 01:44 PM
Try golden glow then i think it is about $8.80 for 60 capsules. Plus $2.75 for postage and handling. These are 1000 mgs!!!!!!!

I order it one day and get it the next but I guess thats cause i live fairly close to brisbane where they are based

Yes I am taking 6 a day but I actually want to triple that dose :)

Oh all the wannabe sexual deviots are coming out...

Look out men! :D

Sherrie
10-09-2003, 03:27 PM

Hi peoples where do you order the fish oil from and yes it is an excellant source of Omega 3

Sherrie
10-09-2003, 04:30 PM
Well don't forget we're LC'ing and need to consume a decent amount of fat which we usually take flax oil to cover that. Unless you want to replace that flax with even more saturated fat :)

Thats the one good thing about flax oil as it's alot more covenient and cheaper compared to taking capsules.

I will PM it to you Anne :)

Geez Tracye, do you rattle when you walk? My mum used to work in the natural health industry and is super skeptical when it comes to supplements. Like people taking super doses of vitamin C to boost their immune system- it doesn't work. Your body can only handle a certain amount and just flushes the rest. It can actually have the opposite effect and make you sick. And taking echinachia (sp?) when you are sick is also worthless- it is a preventative herb. Calcium and iron shouldn't be taken at the same time, while iron and vitamin C should. Its very complex! Vitamins and minerals can be dangerous and an absolute waste of money, so before you go stuffing potions and pills down your throat, find out if you really need it first. Most people need no more than a good multivitamin.

I was actually taking a multi vitamin, Q10, calcium and fish oil before I was LCing..The Q10 and fish oil as well as some of the ingredients in the multi are recommended for people with Fibromyalgia and arthritis..
The Q10 helps with oxygen uptake and the functioning of muscles.
The only thing I have added is the Flaxseed Oil which made a great difference to my hair and skin.. I did try durathon for a while and something else that slips my mind at the moment:o It was probably something to help with my memory HaHa!!!

Oh and I occasionally take chromium to help with the cravings...
