Hi,
I need some advice. I am looking for some help on weight training for women. Cant go to a gym, as there is not one here.
Have tried looking on the net but now I am so totally confused.
Looking forward to a response.

Try www.sizematters.com.au - sister site to this, run by the same lovely people. It's for bodybuilders, and so is mainly a male community - but they are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. If I were you I'd spend some time reading around over there, you'll pick up a lot.
Or, there are some great books around. Simple, many with pictures to demonstrate the exercises

Welcome MKB :)
Theres also some other links in the Getting Started thread to help you make yourself a program.
There's alot you can do with just an adjustable dumbell set (one where you can add weight to it).
Good Luck

Yeah, I've got a set of adjustable dumbells but honestly they are a pain in the bum. I tend to just put one weight on there and leave it there because you lose too much time (i.e. get too much recovery) in between exercises or sets if you have to change weights.
Instead, I have bought a set of the plastic coated dumbells in 2kg, 3kg, 4kg and 5kg and then a pair of metal 7.5kg. I then use the adjustable ones as my "highest" weight.
Until Christmas I had the adjustables set at 10kg but then someone gave me some 10kg dumbells for Chrissy, so now the adjustables ratchet up to 12.5kg. I'd ideally like to get dumbells up to about 17.5kg when I can afford them.
When it seems that your top end weight is too light, you can always increase the degree of difficulty of an exercise by reducing your stability. For example, if you are doing dumbell chest press on a fit ball, then if you lift one foot off the ground, it gets harder to press the same weight.
omg and I thought the 1kg ones I am getting are too heavy.

MKB it won't take long before your lifting them(1kg) with your little finger...
When you first start your strength goes up pretty quickly I think. Thats what mine did and then it kinda platued which I assume would be a result of keto/dieting.
But anyway when I was gaining strength I was constantly buying new PVC dumbells and it gets very expensive before you know it, it costs just as much to buy an adjustable set. The only problem with it though is the weight goes up in bigger chunks. I just went up with the bigger chunks but if you can buy some 1kg discs (lol spelling error, types d*cks:p ) just buy them and the set as it would work out alot cheaper.
Sanuk I know what you mean, I just group my exercises up by the weight I need so I don't need to change em too often.
I have been using 1/2kg weights in aerobics cause my arms just about fall off by the end of it. I tried the 1kg weights and I had to put them down. I don't have strong hands, had tenosynovitus and nerve adhesion, so I think I really need to start small.
Will starting small and then working up to larger weights give muscle definition? I lost a lot of weight and then put some back on but I lack strength and definition. Actually I thought I looked blobby, a smaller blobby version of my blobbier self.
I gotta ask.
How does the upper body workout with weight training effect the "Boob Factor"?
I have a little trouble in that department. I lost 20 kg and the boobs didn't go, but then over the last 3 years I have put on 10 kg and the boobs have got bigger. I am not as overweight as I once was but they are bigger now than they were when I was at my heaviest.
Will upper body training reduce them?

It might but because more muscles causes you to burn more fat, boobs are just fat and water pretty much.
I had problems with my wrists not being able to handle the weight I needed at first but eventually they caught up.
I wonder if squeezing a squash ball would help?
I must admit I'm not expert on this stuff, the people on the sister site are though: www.sizematters.com.au
at first I was wondering how squeezing a squash ball would reduce the boobs. stoopid me. I get it now. do you think that will increase grip strength?

It's not the weight, it's what you do with it! :)

I am a normal woman. I am not a fitness model. I work out in slobby gym wear with no makeup, and I get dirty and sweaty and messyhaired. My breasts are not lifted and separated; they are mashed onto my chest by my cheapo sports bra. When I forget to shave my legs I don't really care. I am in there to work hard, to lift some heavy shit, and to forget about how my body looks in favour of thinking about what my body does. After having had a few injuries and illnesses, I am happy that the old girl works at all! Can I get out of bed in the morning without pain and make it to the coffeemaker? If so, then yay body!
LOL What a great site!!:D
