Hello there, I've posted a few times, but thought I'd start my very own blurb or diary etc.
I have had a weight problem my whole life. But I got down to around 55kg - 60kg when I was about 16-17yo and kept it off for a few years till I was about 23 and then I met my now hubby.
He was very fit person or active and he liked big carb meals, so think that has been part of my downfall again, with me beginning to put on some weight and then I hurt my back and well going from being pretty active socially to not much activity has seen me well more than double in size :(
Anyhow have tried many different types of diets, but remember when I lost the weight at 16yo I went on some diet pills but I was really only eating things like tuna or chicken fillett etc., half the time I'd eat nothing and I quickly lost weight, so pretty much was on low carb at the time.
Ahhh anyhow, around this time last year hubby went interstate for work for 6 weeks, in that time I just cut down on eating his types of meals and while he was gone I lost nearly 10kg :D But then when he returned, a week later my mother past away and well I lost any motivation for anything and spiralled out of control again and put back on 6kg.
So at the start of Feb this year I again thought hmmm I really need to do something, I have a lovely husband, a 4˝yo son and I am overweight and it does stop me having the energy to do things I should be doing with them, like bike riding, walking any distance etc., and I know it will really help my back and hips (I have stuffed hips also, apparently from childhood).
So got a few low carb high protein books and started reading, hubby was interested too and he is keen to help me, although sometimes when I try dieting I feel he smothers me a little, and well this time he hasn't been too bad, and has been participating as well, mind you he weighed in yesterday at 76kg and is 6'2".
Well I've been going well, have lost since February 7kg, I did have a few weeks where my weight loss just stopped in the middle, hence the reason I've now gone onto Atkins Induction phase and have shifted that kg and another, so hopefully I will keep it up.
I have only had a few occasions where I've been craving a few carbs, think yesterday was one when my son was at kinder I went to purchase the easter eggs and wasn't bad when I was there but last night when hubby was out at his basketball game I thought hmmmm wouldn't mine some chocolate, but I resisted and feel all the better for doing it.
Well that's it for me for now, have to go pick my son up from kinder.

Hey they is great your husband is interested, will help a ton!
I hope he doesn't smother you too much hehe
7kg since Feb is great, you might find those slowdowns you had were hormone related.
I thought hmmmm wouldn't mine some chocolate, but I resisted and feel all the better for doing it.
Its a great feeling isn't it!

Thanks for all your welcomes, yes thought it was time for me to make the change to diary vs newby :D
Well I had a good week, weighed myself this morning and I lost just on 2kg for the week :D I also took my measurements which have changed by a centimeter or two, although hopefully this isn't just because I'm a bit clumsy trying to take the measurements, lol.
I'm still being guinea piggie and having a teaspoon of coconut oil a day via teaspoon, although it has tasted a little yukky the last day or so as it has cooled down here in Melbourne in temperature so the oil is a bit more solid, when it is just soft its not as bad, so I've just put it on my tongue and let it melt for a second or three and then swallowed it :p
Oh was out shopping the other day and went to an ATM next to liquor land and saw the beer Natural Blonde think its called, its Low Carb, not that I drink beer ewwwww but hubby does socially so I had a look and it said 3.6g carb per 300ml (from memory). Anyone tried it that drinks beer and can say if it tasted okay or not...just curious. Told hubby I'd ask as he hasn't been brave enough to try some when he goes out Friday at lunchtime for a few drinks at work.
Anyhow my weekend was pretty active, my son saw the Grand Prix cars on Friday on tv and I told him that daddy has been watching them today at work out his office window in Sth Melbourne, so he said he wanted to go, so we went on Saturday and had perfect view of Albert Park Race track from hubby's desk,(hubby can't complain about his view  ) and then we went for a long walk around Botanic Gardens. Sunday was outside and I pruned some of my roses which I've neglected for awhile, and then I played lots of soccer and chasey with my Mr4˝yo, he told me I have to learn to share and take turns :D So I think my energy levels are increasing and must say I have been feeling a little less achy.

Good stuff!
I was bad at taking my measurements, each time was different, I used to record my average and sure enough they consistently went down.
I would have even more coconut oil :)
Lots of people have tried the pure blonde, havn't heard a bad word about it yet!
I assume your hubby doesn't really have weight to lose so is probably fine, certainly better then normal beer!
Bah don't mention grand prix to me *grumble*
<------ from Adelaide ;) :p :D
Thats great your having such good improvements!
Pure blonde is not too bad.
Congrats on your weight loss to date. You are doing really well. I also put on heaps of weight when I got married as I started eating like hubby - big, carby meals.
I must start taking that coconut oil - maybe 10mL?
Miestar
03-04-2006, 02:42 PM
Yeah taking measurements can be tricky, they all seemed to be a tad less so I was happy :D
No hubby doesn't need to loose anymore weight, he is or was last week 76kg and he is 6'2", rides his bike 40km a day, plays basketball once a week and is a psycho out in the garden to relax from working 50 hours per week  He puts me to shame in all areas, lol.
Ohhh and if you really want I'll put in a word to the Grand Prix organisation and say that you want it back...very welcome to it, not something that interests me at all.
Yes I stacked it on, ahhhh and on, and on, and on and lost a little here and there, but then it went back on with some more :(
So how much coconut oil do you suggest, 1, 2, 3 teaspoons? per day?
Thanks for the info re taste test on Pure Blonde...will tell hubby about that and then he can decide for himself.
I have just been for a checkup at the dentist, I was worried a little, have read a few places that Low Carb tends to give you stinky breath or can cause ?halitosis?. But all was fine, the dentist said I have perfect dental hygiene and no gum problems, teeth problems etc., ahhhhh what a relief, seen the dentist is my least favourite place in the first place :D

Hehe I don't care for it much either, but its good for the tourism $
You'll find that most coconut oil articles will reccomend it by the tablespoon, I've seen it reccomended at 1-2 tablespoons and 2-3 tablespoons.
Yeah some do get keto breath, I never have had it or atleast no-one has ever told me :p
If it happens parsley is a good breath freshener. Also it might just meed you need to drink some more water.

Thanks for the info re: the Natural or Pure Blonde Beer, will tell hubby about it.
Yes was pretty proud of my 2kg this week, hopefully I keep it up.
I've just come home from water aerobics, began going last term, but didn't go the last week of term because my son was sick so he didn't goto kinder which is my only opporunity to go. And then 2 weeks holidays, then I slacked out last week, but did have a huge headache so that was my excuse. So went again today and it was good. Goes for 45mins and I also swam a leisurely 300 meters as well. But have to go now and pick up my beast from kinder then rush about and go shopping etc., go buy some meat :D ahhhh we have turned into carnivours! lol

Miestar COngrats on your weightloss and your focus....stick with it. and when you loose focus - this board will help you get it back!

05-04-2006, 10:40 AM
Yes focus is something I need as well as determination etc. I seem to be a binge eater, and love comfort food, if I'm stressed think I tend to move on in to the pantry and see what crap I can put into my mouth until I end up making myself sick :(
But so far with the Low Carb I have been really good. I just find snacks and eating a "hearty" breakfast is the hardest part, but then again I'm a bit of a wiz in the kitchen so am coming up with a few ideas about some nice treats for when I've lost some more kilos. Just in the interim it is a bit more difficult.
The motivation has been good, reading others ups and downs and not feeling alone in my quest to loose weight. So fingers crossed I stick to it and the Easter feasts I've been invited to with family and friends doesn't stuff me up, but luckily they will have meat there :D lol

If its a barbie you'll be set, I find them the easiest to eat LC. Bring along a yummy LC cheesecake and they won't know the difference and you get to have a treat and still be LC too!
Miestar
05-04-2006, 11:13 AM
Well the one we have been going to every year is with Italian friends, they always have first course of home made pasta, often gnocci which is mouth watering, then they have roast meats and vegies etc., there are always boiled eggs and salad as well, and cheeses, meats etc., everything, usually waddle out of there, as well as the exchange of lots of chocolate
Then have also been invited to sister in laws, there will be a bbq of some description or a roast with salad and vegies, she is an average cook so not a problem eating too much there :D
Someone actually gave me a reciepe for a chocolate flourless cake the other day, they said that the cake is yummy and they totalled the carbs for the whole cake to about 30g  which I'm yet to check on myself but that sounded pretty good
Sherrie
05-04-2006, 11:34 AM
Good luck on the first one!
If it was me I'd treat myself a little but I've been at this for a long time and my will power is strong now.
Its up to you what you want to do there but if your not sure then give the pasta a miss if you can without offending them or just allow yourself a mouthful to savour and leave it at that.
But if you do, make sure your mentally ready, I've seen alot of people go full hog on xmas and then have heaps of trouble getting back on track. I find it is easier to stay on track if you just allow yourself a treat without the guilt and then stop there.
Otherwise if you keep going you get guilty, then more guilty and then the justification of "well I've already blown it I may aswell have more" sets in and then the cravings are back and yeah it just keeps snowballing.
The best thing about LC is it can help so much more with cravings, emotional eating etc... by evening out those blood sugar highs and lows, but it takes time and especially when the problem is emotional you need to work on that too.
So yeah if you do, don't feel bad, your only human, say to yourself there is nothing wrong with a treat every now and again (easter is only once a year) and then stop right there and go back to choosing LC foods.
Most flourless cake recipes are actually LC if you take out the sugar. Funnily enough I am still yet to make one but I am actually considering giving one a go as Mayas first birthday is coming up. We have some recipes here too if you need some ideas and want to do some experimentation: http://www.pictureofhealth.com.au/vbb/showthread.php?threadid=2132

Ahhh well I was kinda naughty last night
Had a friends son's 21st birthday to go to, so instead of having a protein meal for dinner, hubby and I thought we would have a carb meal, i.e., I cooked a yellow rice and vegie meal, it was basmati that I used, and some vegies and a sri lankan yellow rice paste, it was yummy so then didn't feel as guilty having a piece of birthday cake. We did this using the theory of not having protein for the carbs to turn it into fat. Oh an I had a short black too
So last night I didn't sleep, my first un-decaff coffee for awhile now, and all that sugar, lol
Actually must say I did feel bloated last night, so I'm glad I got it out of my system, and coming into TOM think it has curbed any cravings I might have...lets hope
Sherrie

We did this using the theory of not having protein for the carbs to turn it into fat.
What do you mean by that? I know how some say not to have carbs and fat although on the other hand fat slows down the absorbtion of carbs. But carbs and protein?
Miestar
07-04-2006, 12:03 PM
Hmmmm....was waiting for someone to ask for explanation
Okay...this is from a book I read by John Ratcliffe, Low Carb Made Easy.
The Combinations for Weight Loss.
So you have now got rid of all the bad carbs from your diet, and thats great, but unfortunately it won't be enough to help you lose weight. To ensure that you are going to lose weight you now have to know the art of combining the different elements of the above lists into meals. The combinations produce two types of meals.
The first is an all-carb meal, which is a combination of the moderate and good carbs. Because the moderate carbs in this type of meal can raise your blood sugar level to the point where insulin may be released, we don't combine fats with this, so I have called it a carbohydrate only meal.
The other I call a protein meal. It is a combination of only the good carbs that will not raise your blood sugar level, which have been combined with protein from meats and seafood. Because in this second option you are barely raising your blood sugar level, the rise of insulin being released has been removed, and therefore the fats cannot be absorbed. As a result, added fats and oils, as well as those found in meats, can be included. But we will look at this in more detail later. first, lets focus on the carb only meal.
Carbohydrate Only Meal
With the first meal, you are combining the moderate and good carbs together. Because this meal containes elements that can affect the blood sugar level moderately, then there is a chance of insulin being released. This is nothing to worry about because it is only a small amount, and the excess sugar that would have to be metabolised, would probably never be converted to fat, simply because there isn't enough. However, we don't want to be eating fats at this time because the possible arrival of insulin may cause those fats to be absorbed. This is what we do not want when trying to loose weight.
As a result, this meal is one which should contain no fats at all. Zero fat should be your goal when eating a combination of these two categories of carbs. If you were going to stir-fry the vegetables, you would use water and a nonstick fry pan instead of oil. So the carb only meal would be a combination of the lists 1 and 2.
---------------------------------
Okay well that maybe doesn't explain it real well, but he goes on in his book about the different types of meals, the times it takes before you can switch from one to the other, for example if you have a protein meal you need to wait at least 5 hours before you can have a carb meal. Or a carb meal is only 3 hours before you can have a protein meal.
Mine and hubbys theory last night was that we had the carb meal which was Good carbs and Basmati which was a Moderate carb and then had the cake 3 hours later. So it might not of all been turned to fat
Don't know if I've made sense :( :( :D

Ah okay I remember when that (version atleast) first came out, we had a few ladies here give that a whirl. I have picked up the book, flipped through the pages but that is as far as I have gone as for me anyway its a bit of hogwash. Eating carbs only in a meal has never sat right to me logically.
But thats just my take on it I have never tried that diet myself. We did have quite a few discussions on it. I'll see if we still have them.
Is this a new book you bought or is it something you have followed before and if so how did you go on it?
The other thing that doesn't sit right with me is the diet name etc... keeps changing, I believe they are due to change their name etc... again soon?
Are you following atkins?

Okay I bought the book a month or so ago, bought a few low carb reciepe books and different ones from ebay.
I actually started my low carb diet using the first one I bought which was just a tiny little pocket book called "How much Carb, How much Protein". From that I was just ensuring that I had no more than 20g carbs per day, but it was not using any Atkins principles.
Then I received the John Ratcliffe book as I was waiting for those 4 Atkins books from USA to come (which still have not) but that's another story, and I read it, I have not followed any of his reciepes really, just thought about what he said with the time frames and the carbs and proteins and insulin levels etc., but primarily what I've been doing has been more of an Atkins diet, and then I finally bought an Atkins book and have read that and gone a little more hard line and been 98% trying to stick with Induction Phase as that is seeming to move the weight for me a little better at this stage. Last night was the first time I've had rice in so long, we used to eat so much basmati and pasta it wasn't funny, always loved vegies but have now changed some of the types for the time being.

Also I just read that other link you had for the LCME posts and yes that is the books I'm talking about.
I also have another one which is a Low Carb and GI book, have not read that yet, don't want to confuse myself too much or more than I already am at times (just the blonde factor) :D

Yeah we used to eat stir fries with noodles, curries with white rice and pasta every night... Not all 3 in the one night ofcourse!
On top of that I drank coke as if it were water I mean its not like there is any fat in it! :o

Glad to hear you didn't eat all 3 in one night, might of been a bit excessive :D
Sorry about the blonde joke...Yes I'm Blonde and Proud too, Proud that at 36yo I still don't have any grey hair :D :D :D My son 4yo who has same colour as me is quite happy with it as well, he likes to rub it into his daddy the fact that he and mummy both have the same hair and blue eye colour, hubby has jet black hair and hazel/green eyes and is starting to show a few greys
Well as far as soft drinks we have always been low calorie type, was a huge Pepsi Max fan, hubby could drink 2 litres of the stuff in a very short time, I wasn't as excessive, just a glass or two a day. But I do enjoy water, although find as its getting cooler my consumption of water has gone down a little :( But I'm trying, have just finished my first litre for today, hopefully I start on my next soon.

Well I had a pretty good weekend. Was out and about most of Saturday and Sunday. Was looking for an egg poacher, have pretty much had it with the microwave ones I have, it is really hit or miss on how it turns out depending on the size of the egg etc., so decided to go and get one of the pan variety, but do you think that was an easy task  Hubby wanted one that does 6 eggs, the only ones we found were for 4 eggs, we did see a 6 egg one but that was a complimentary fitting with a Scanpan frying pan and for $100 plus dollars I don't need to cook all 6 eggs at once, lol. And was also looking for a new pan to cook on the stove with, have decided on a 32" Scanpan which I've found I can buy the cheapest online, so I'll probably place an order for that next week.
I'm a bit of a cookware junkie, have been making a few hearty meaty meals with my Le Creuset French Oven lately too.
Well I weighed myself this morning, I'm due for TOM and I only went down 1kg for the week but was pretty happy about that.
:D
Also got creative last night, as a treat made my first low carb desert. I made it up as I went, got some almond meal and mixed a tiny bit of nutmeg and cinnamon and also some melted butter and that was the base, and I just lined the bottom of 2 muffins in a 6 pan muffin tray, know if I made more than 2 - one for me and one for hubby I'd only eat them :D Then I put that in the oven to cook/brown while I mixed the cheese.
Anyhow got some Philly cheese and mixed into it a little artificial sweetner, an egg and a drop of chocolate flavour food colour/flavour essence, some vanilla essence, and some cocoa and a drop of double cream. Mixed it all up and then took out the muffin tray, let it cool for a min or two, put in the cheese and then put it back into oven. Cooked it for about 15 - 20 mins, then just got a knife and scraped around the muffin and inverted onto a plate, the base was actually then the top, but it didn't matter was only going to see daylight for a short time.
It was actually quite delicious, didn't take me long to make, just felt like a treat and thought I'd make something that was Low Carb. :D So that was my first Low Carb Desert :D
P.S. Saw on Ebay for sale Low Carb Chocolate - TORRAS CHOCOLATE, BOX OF 12, 75g BLOCKS, MILK CHOCOLATE, European Chocolate, low carb - sugar free, "GREAT TASTING!"
WITH ONLY 2g OF CARBS, has anyone ever tried this chocolate? Was just thinking it might be an option for those really desperate times, lol, or I was just curious as to what it tasted like if anyone knows :B

Got a CD-Rom in the mail yesterday and ran it last night it is for Cirque Du Soleil's new show coming to Australia - Varekai, pre-released tickets. I am so excited, now I have to wait until April 2007 though :(

11-04-2006, 11:48 AM
Yes it is, ahhh but it will come around soon enough, so much can happen in 1 year.
It has been almost 1 year since my sweet loving mother past away :( So I've had a busy sad year, my father ended up having a stroke and was in hospital for 3 months and then ended up staying with me for 2 months, and I've been rushing about like a chook with my head chopped off.
But I'm determined this year is the year I'm going to have some success doing some me time, working on my own well being for a change, but still fitting in everyone else
I went to water aerobics again this morning which was good, and if TOM appears I will know I'm not pregnant  which I'm not sure is or isn't the case
So we will just see.

Sorry to hear about your mum Miestar :(
I hope your dad is doing better.
Definately look after yourself or it will catch up with you later on!
When you start a diet your hormones can get funky for a little bit but it usually settles down in a few months. If your hair is thinning thats a good sign its just hormones.
That said especially if you have pcos etc LC can improve fertility alot so be careful! ;)
Miestar
18-04-2006, 02:38 PM
Well I'm not pregnant :D that takes a load off my mind.
And Easter has come and gone, I didn't do too badly, on Easter Sunday we had a little easter egg hunt for my 4˝yo beast and I had a few eggs  and Easter Bunny brought me a 100g Lindt bunny so that went at lunchtime. I didn't have anything else to eat that morning while having the chocolates, but I have to admit, I did feel ill later on. Not sure if it was the eggs or dinner at Sister in Laws house, I'd say that latter of the two but that would be being mean ;)
So now we have a pantry full of eggs and still have not caught up with the rest of family who also give eggs etc., but I've been strong and not endulged.
I weighed myself yesterday (Monday) and I hadn't lost or put on anything, and considering the eggs and crap I ate at sister in laws and it being TOM I'm quite happy with that result. And I think it has given me a bit of determination for this week to make sure the scales go down :D
Sherrie
18-04-2006, 02:50 PM
Oh that is great Miestar!!!
Lindt was a good choice if dark as less carbs in them!
I was a good girl and bought Garry the lindt dark chocolate but he bought me normal chocolate. But I'm not trying to lose currently so aslong as I be sensible I should be okay.
Garry gave Maya her first little taste, and boy for someone that didn't seem to have a sweet tooth by her disinterest in fruits you wouldn't know. Sounds like she is just like her mummy!
But as much as I won't encourage her its good to know there is something there she likes as much as my boob.
Miestar
18-04-2006, 04:16 PM
Yes Lindt was a good choice, but I didn't buy dark ... I have been a Milk Chocolate Lindt muncher for at least 20 years now, but I do know the dark does have less Carbs - my thoughts were if I was going to have some I might as well enjoy it :D
I remember my son was about 20 months old when he had his first taste of chocolate. It was Easter and we were on holidays and someone gave him a little egg, well he ended up wearing it but did think it was yummy, now he is a chocolate pig, he loves chocolate, doesn't like sweet things like other kids, only chocolate. Although he is pretty good, you can offer him something and he will turn it down if its something thats sticky, as he is tactile sensitive and doesn't like sticky stuff, the chocolate he gobbles before he has a chance to get messy, lol But my son wont eat fruit either, although when he was a baby I had to mix pureed apple with everything, to get him to eat something savory he wouldn't eat it unless I also added pureed apple, lol, now I only wish he would eat fruit.

Maya doesn't mind some pear and apricot mixed in yoghurt. She likes the strawberry yoghurt of mine too when I gave her a taste but then remembered its best to put off being a strong allergen. She loves grated cheese and pureed pumpkin and sweet potatoe, likes to have peas too
I was a huge vegetable eater growing up, I reckon she will be the same. I keep trying meat but she never has much.

Weighed myself yesterday...........:D lost 1 to 1.5kg :D yay, its going in the right direction so that's keeping me happy.
Yesterday was a tough day, was 1st anniversary of my mothers passing :( Went to the cemetary and the plaque has been fitted which made it all more pleasant, it took awhile to get it done as dad had stroke not long after mum past away and it just got put aside, so I took him to do it about 6 weeks ago so it looked very nice. It is in a nice lawn area where its not intrusive with headstones etc., just plaqued graves so quite pretty.
Ahhhhhh and I have a cold at the moment, something my son brought home from Kinder with him and shared with me, its not too bad as far as snotty nose and sore throat but I have aches in every part of my body from head to toe, and I feel quite crap actually.
Oh I've run out of coconut oil, finished a jar of the stuff, going to get some more through the week, maybe that's why I'm so achy??? lol body is in withdrawal from the yummy coconut oil, lmao.

Ahhh Mothers Day yesterday! Had a lovely Day. Mr 4½ woke me up with lots of kisses and cuddles and pressie and card. Hubby gave me a card as well and breaky - not in bed, I hate to eat in bed, was at the table where I prefer :D
Weighed myself yesterday morning. I think since I last posted I've lost 1.5kg.
Anyhow went out for lunch yesterday for mothers day - hence reason I weighed myself yesterday morning and not today :D Had salt & pepper squid and for main morton bay bugs tails in chilli - was delicious - but also had dessert, some butterscotch creamy treat with halva and a butterscotch schnapps. Was yummo, then went to a funky cafe for another drink and wind down and ended up going to another cafe after that for coffee and decided on cake for dinner, which left 2/3rds of the piece, had enough by then :D
Today am back on the wagon, don't think I want to see another Carb for awhile lol.

Ahhh haven't been about for a little while. Have not been 100% :(
Had another Gall Bladder episode last week, normally it has been through the night so I've only ever gone to doctors the day after when it first happened when I was pregnant in 2001, but this was the first time it was through the day so hubby came home from work and took me to the doctor. She gave me an injection to stop me vomiting and a referral to a surgeon :O
Anyhow I made a call yesterday and I have appointment to see him on 5th June and he said I would be able to have the surgery during the school holidays so from 17th June or there after :D
I'm quite nervous, but am thinking about it that its one way to loose a few pounds lol
Apart from that I've just been quite busy, and also had another bout of a cold :( which just seems to linger but it isn't as bad as the one I got rid of only a few weeks ago. Nothing a cold and flu tablet won't cure or relieve.
Anyhow I've still been loosing just on 1kg a week, although the past week it may of only been ½kg with the left over indulgence effects of mothers day :D
Hopefully when I have the surgery I can get right back on track, as I'm finding it hard to have motivation to eat at the moment, just thinking it might make me sick again :(

The night before it happened I cooked lamb and had some steamed broccoli, bok choy and cauliflower. And for breakfast I had melted a little cheese with spinach leafs and tuna. So nothing except maybe the lamb might of done it, just think it has been happening more regularly since being low carb - but then it will be better out than in. Actually is quite common - more people that I would of imagined don't have their gall bladder anymore.

Yeah I'm not sure. Although one thing I had taken the same morning was also an echinacea ACE with Zinc tablet. I had a cold coming on (only just got rid of one) and I often take that when I'm getting sick. And it was around the same time ???
Only thing I can think of and I did mention to my doctor was that I'd taken the echinacea - maybe I should have a better look at the ingredience of it, it is a new brand, bought it the other month - probably co-incides with the more frequent gall bladder attacks and I am allergic to sulphur medications - maybe there is sulphur in it ??? I think I better have a look before I start to make myself sick possibly unnecessarily. But the Gall Bladder will be better out than in :D

Saw the surgeon yesterday - I am going to get gall bladder out, probably in about 2 weeks to coincide with school holidays. Am quite nervous. Asked the surgeon to point out to me on my ultrasound from 2001 where the sludge was or any stone, I have or had at that time a 1 inch stone :O and some sludge, so I have no idea how big it is now or what else is in there. Apparently pregnancy and breastfeeding can be partly to blame when attacks occur which makes a bit of sense - had my first attack when pregnant and had my second 2 years later when I'd just stopped breastfeeding and my hormones were going crazy.
Anyhow will be better with it out - and a 1" stone should weigh a bit lmao

So the whole weekend was really great, hubby had suprised me with all the places we went - I'm quite tired now though - we were out each day for the whole day so got a bit tired.
I tried making my first LC cake - was chocolate, quite nice, but I think it could of been a little sweeter, but hubby loved it and has eaten almost the whole thing, lol.

Ummmm not really, he starts work early and then is home usually late and its time for dinner then, so I'm 99% care provided, amusement giver, etc. Think it starts when you breastfeed, you end up taking on all the responsibility and as I breastfed for 18 months its a long time and the task of bringing up our son ended up majority of the time mine.
Hubby as he works long hours and its all brain strain work - engineering he likes to relax doing gardening on weekend and my son will occasionally go out and help but 90% of the time would prefer to be playing with his trains. Also because I'm with our son all the time he tends to favour me when it comes to doing things.

Yeah it is probably only real downside. I see my Sister in Law - she breastfed for a short time but there were problems so she expressed for a month or so and then had to use a special formula on prescription because of some intolerances my niece has...although my point, seeing her and then when she needs to do something, her hubby takes over, nanna takes over, aunt takes over etc., it is more pleasant, everyone can have a go with the nutritional giving to the child...you can have a sleep in and let someone else feed the baby if your sick or just plain tired, but with breastfeeding its a 24/7 on call type situation. Ahhh but its not for long in the big picture of life.
Sherrie
16-06-2006, 08:41 AM
Yeah Maya is 13.5 months so won't be long now surely!
Sometimes I go to the baby sites but often that does my head in more because most of the BF mothers only feed say 3 times a day once their on solids whereas maya still feeds like a newborn!
It has its good side though as she can't tolerate solids with her sore and swollen throat right now and is not really touching her water much so it is keeping her from getting dehydrated. Even BF shes not wanting much. I remember when Ryan got sick he would always get really dehydrated and would refuse fluids.
Miestar
16-06-2006, 10:37 AM
Your doing great getting to 13.5 months, I tried to wean my son around 12 months and was down to morning and night feed only and then he got quite sick and the only thing he wanted was me and being breastfed - so up went the demand again, he was back to feeding morning afternoon and night again, and as it was easy and he enjoyed it I kept going till one day he said no more, wouldn't attach just went crazy, so I tried a few more times same day and he wouldn't really feed, this went on for about 3 days and I realised he had decided enough now - this was a 18 months old, and he was never much for solids - he always pewked up solids - has sensory confusion, which means he can't have more than one texture or he gags and vomits :( And he is tactile sensitive so would never want to feed himself. Even now when he will be 5 in Sept, I still have to blend his food to basically 9 month old consistency or it can be solid but has to be only one thing and something not too much work to eat. But its getting better/easier as he matures.
Maya's sore throat - is it tonsills?
Sherrie
16-06-2006, 11:05 AM
We all have colds, omg Maya gags at different textures aswell!
I even tried this organic spelt baby porridge mix to blend in with some things to try and start thickening her foods last week but she gags from the grainy sand like texture no matter how sloppy it is!

Hi everyone, well I've had it out, yep I'm now 1 gall bladder and a couple of stones lighter (gall stones :) ). I went in Tuesday morning and by Tuesday afternoon I was conscious again, absolutely felt like I'd been kicked in the guts by a clydesdale. Had I think 2 cuts in the belly button, one in the middle of chest, a big hole under the right boob, one on the right side and a couple of knicks - Surgeon told me I had 5 holes, but I have counted two more smaller ones??? Anyhow it all went well, had a tube coming out of me for 2 days with what I referred to as a juice box attached, was for drainage and that was pulled out by the nurses, imagine being kicked by that same clydesdale from the inside out with hot horseshoes on - well that's how it felt, was a big burning sensation but only lasted briefly, think the pethadine counteracted that.
Anyhow am at home now, hubby and son did well - my son stressed out poor little thing, hence reason I asked doctor to come home 1 day early, which he let me if I took it easy. Hubby coped fairly well, although was a bit stressed, I'm being called for dinner now. So I'm still alive, will catch you later. :D

How does it feel now?
Well now it feels still pretty sore, but I'm moving about a little better, still having troubles with sleep but that is going to be the way for another week or so at least. See the surgeon tomorrow for a check up and he will have a few pics for me to see of my insides - can't keep the stones anymore due to health dept regulations so it will be interesting to at least see some pics.
Hubby has been helping me quite alot and enjoying being home, he has been doing the cooking although when he went out on the other day I quickly whipped out the upright vac and did a little clean - nothing too much and didn't over do it, but felt a bit better afterwards and a few Panedine Forte later, probably most I've done.
We went shopping today, I picked the vegies and hubby carried, then went to get some meat and some antipasto yummies - it is great where we are, there are alot of places that sell direct, so we get chicken from La Ionica where it is all processed chemical free - if you get their budget chicken breast fillett, you can pay $25 for 5kg of skinless breast :D, meat from a place that supplies to restaurants, so got some melt in your mouth scotch and veal, and some marinated fetta, artichokes etc., fresh from the antipasto manufacturer which was next door.
So not sure which is for dinner tonight, hubby is cooking again, although he has no idea on judging portions, just piles the plate mile high, lol.
Anyhow am feeling a bit better, hope I recover quickly and am able to get back to my LC diet and loose some more kilo's.

Well I'm back in the saddle, hubby's first day back at work today and my first day with my son alone in 2 weeks. We were supposed to go to his swimming lesson this morning, he had breaky, I got his clothes and bathers ready and he had just taken of Pj's and ran to toilet and had a pewk :O poor little thing and managed to make a mess on the toilet floor and mat too :( so I cancelled his lesson and then got the mop out and washed floors and washed mat.
Then after son was all showered and dressed he wanted another drink of water, he sat, kept it down, then went to lye down on his fold out kid couch and pewk pewk pewk again :( so out came the mop, scrubbed the rug, washed the couch and washed and stripped son again, now he is back in pj's. Aggghhhh, too bad for me taking it easy, lol - talk about being thrown in the deep end. Ohh well, I'm glad that was it, son is okay now, has had some lunch and a few drinks and is playing trains.
As for me, I'm feeling about 70% now after operation, still have the vertigo which is causing me pain when trying to sleep but I'll get over it eventually.
The house still looks like a bit of a bomb site, but I'll slowly tidy up that, hubby isn't the greatest house keeper but did work out how to use the vac by the end of his 2 weeks off lol.
I'm going to get back into LC mode and hopefully start to loose weight again, I weighed myself and I have stagnated which is good - have eaten alot of carbs the past few weeks so wasn't sure how I'd go, but one thing I will confirm - HOSPITAL FOOD - EVEN PRIVATE HOSPITAL FOOD IS CRAP!

So what do you do now, did they put you on a special diet etc?
DOINGIT
05-07-2006, 03:34 PM
if it was key hole surgery the vertigo/headaches are a result of the helium that they pump into the cavity to expand it so they can work on what ever organ they are fussing with. I had it for about 2 weeks after I had a laporascope. Makes you feel yuck but it does go away.
Glad you are feeling better and hope you don't get that tummy bug son had.

I don't know re: the vertigo. I seem to get it quite often, sometimes it lasts for a day, other times a couple of weeks to a month or so. If I look up or when I lie down other than lying on my tummy or my side with face turned into pillow it effects me.
Not sure why I get it, I hurt my back in maybe 1993 and think it sort of came after that, remember seeing a doctor years ago and she thought it might of been sinus but had some sort of xray and it wasn't that and then think I've just put up with it. I have started to realise when I begin to get a sore neck it often tends to happen, or I can wake up in middle of night lying on my back and the room is violently spinning :( Although the Chiropractor I used to see used to do this neck adjustment thingie which he would have you stand up and hold your head and quickly twist it to one side then the other and your neck would crack both ways - maybe that has something to do with it ???
Re: the special diet, the surgeon said that I should be fine, able to eat anything and everything, not have any aversion to any type of food, although he did say that often when people get their gall bladder out that the find they are able to eat everything and that they can go overboard. He didn't say a particular regime to follow but did say not to overdo fats - but that's something I've never really done anyhow.
So I'm hoping getting back into Low Carb and High Protein will be fine, although as I said have slackened off a little lately. We went out for dinner the other night, my son was having a sleepover at his Nannas and we went Sri Lankan, it was divine, I did keep away from the rice which I was proud of and had a lot of meat, chicken, fish and things like coconut sambal and jackfruit. And I was fine afterwards, it was such an assortment of foods, pretty much only ate proteins but I was fine in the tummy afterwards.

Yeah had the headaches while in hospital and for a week or so afterwards at home, but the vertigo is something I've had pre-operation. Although was lucky it didn't start till after the operation, I remember when I had my son I had it and having a c-section, morphine etc., and having to lie on that stupid hospital bed I had to be upright most of the time to avoid falling out from being dizzy, lol.
So the last week I've been piled high with pillows in bed, started with about 10 of them and slept upright - something I don't advise anyone to do in a normal bed, but the Panadeine Forte put me to sleep so it wasn't too bad, and gradually I got rid of a pillow here and there. Now I'm back to one or two but am able to sleep again on my right side with not too much discomfort from the cuts.

Miestar you should see someone about that!
I was going to say maybe its a blood pressure or blood sugar thing but not quite sure with some of the things you said...
I had it right through my pregnancy though it improved as my pregnancy went on and I learnt how to manage it but I was able to get it to pass. I also get it if I go for too long without eating etc....

On reflection it sounds like you are pinching the cartoid artery. That can be from muscle spasm if your neck is in a funny position.
Not often picked up, but the physio here fixed my pinched never and I touch wood have never had it since unless I am extremely stiff necked (shush up Sherrie) and need to have him 'turn the muscels off' which he does with like accupressure and movement.
I will see if I can find out what his technique is and let you know.
Where do you live - he may know someone there as I know he lectures on the method.

Blood pressure is fine Sherrie - actually never had a blood pressure problem - think it got a tad high at end of pregnancy but that's pregnancy stuff.
As far as managing, yeah think I'm used to it now that I have just put up with it all the time, although must say I don't seem to get it as frequently as before but it still happens often.
DoingIt...I'm in Melbourne - yeah it seems to come on either in middle of night when I'm asleep, or I seem to start to get a sore neck for a few days, I try and manipulate it and can feel it coming on and know that its going to end in vertigo in a few days after - which can sometimes last for a month or more :(
Because of my back I used to goto Chiro - who manipulated my neck, and I also went to Physio, but his manipulation (although for my back - never really neck) used to hurt. Have had laser accupuncture - was a daily occurance for awhile then went to 3 or so times a week but again isolated on back area. Then used to go for massage once a week - did this for a few years which was nice, and she used to do accupressure, bowen, shiatsu (spellings?) as I'd tell her my neck/vertigo problem but it never really did anything to fix it :(
Oh also I've been diagnosed with Carpel Tunnel - but never had any operation for it, but found that it seemed more like Thorasic Outlet Syndrome which nerves up near neck area - so don't know if this has anything to do with it, but had the Vertigo a few years before the Carpel Tunnel/Thorasic Outlet Syndrome showed.
I am in Melbourne's Northern suburbs.

Its a special pillow to help keep your spine aligned when you sleep or something like that, I have one that has 2 sides, one for laying on my side and one for back. Mine looks like the bottom one on this page except it also has 2 contoured sides: http://www.physiosupplies.com.au/acatalog/Dentons_Comfort_Pillows.html
Which by the looks is replaced with this one (mine didn't have that butterfly look): http://www.physiosupplies.com.au/acatalog/Dentons_Contoured_Pillows.html
Hmm I might shop around for one of those butterfly ones hehe

Thanks Sherrie - have had a quick look and it looks interesting, I have to go out now but will have a bit more study after.
I used to have a pillow years ago which was a special pillow my mum brought me - it was so comfy, super soft etc., but I don't have it anymore :( lol

Agghhhh has been awhile. Well had the gall bladder out - been 4 weeks now since my operation, and I've put on a kilo or two :( I have been craving carbs the past few weeks - not so much carbs but chocolate, and I've given in a few times - easy to do when you have a box of chocolates to sell for kinder and another box to sell for sons other special kinder.
Had a big weekend - went out for a personal wine tour for hubby's 40th Birthday - took 4 of our friends with us, it was fantastic, tasting wine in the personal rooms of the winery's with a lovely cheese platter to accompany, wine expert to go through everything with you...ahhhh just lovely :D was a really full day - 9:00am leave home - start drinking by 10:30 and then home at 6:30pm. :D
Ahhh anyhow this week I tried to get back into LC mode, but had a few hiccups early on and didn't get it right till yesterday so now (fingers crossed) I am on the No Carb or LC Wagon - I hope that I get motivated again, am pretty much, just have to get used to having protein breaky and then having something for lunch and not feeling like I need a quick fix in the late afternoon. Dinner isn't too much of a problem - I have that worked out well these days.
Actually one of my friends who came with us on the weekend I was talking to her on the phone last night, and she commented that I was looking "really healthy", she is Italian and they are big pasta eaters, but also meat as well and was interested in LC, so we had a bit of a chat about it, maybe another convert ;) Although she doesn't really need to loose weight, maybe 1kg or 2 but she just thought we were looking really healthy, maybe it was that I was having a good hair day dunno. lol

Hey Miestar I bet thats only water!!!
How are you tolerating fats now?
I think its time to get full on selling those chocolates!!! :D
Have you tried something LC to help with those choc cravings? Maybe a square of lindt 85%?
I used to hate dark chocolate but now I even love the 85% lindt, yummo!
Miestar
20-07-2006, 10:53 AM
Hi Sherrie - I'm hoping its only water - but only a week or so will tell ;)
Am tollerating fats well now - have not had any problem since, but am still in recovery mode so not always feeling like eating the right thing. The surgeon said to me that often alot of people when they have their gall bladder out they find they can eat anything and everything and it is often not good as they eat too much. As far as fats - haven't had anything really fatty - although a cappaccino used to set me off on occasion - think it was all the hot milk, but I've been fine so far with that as well. Have been munching on cheese, ham (off the bone), etc., and so far not a problem.
Yes I actually have about 5 blocks of the 85% Lindt in the cupboard - I have tried to have a bit of that to curb my wicked ways when the chocolate cravings go into overload, although I just don't find it satisfying hence reason I still have about 5 blocks, lol - and I do like dark chocolate.
Next time I feel like I can't do without some chocolate, I'll try the Lindt 85% again, but the bitter taste doesn't really make my mouth water, lol.
Sherrie
20-07-2006, 11:00 AM
Miestar you will develop a taste for it trust me!!! If I can you can hehe
An even better alternative is to chuck one of those blocks into a LC cheesecake, Mmmmmm
I find the less fat I eat the more stronger my cravings. You could try chromium too.
Still having your coconut oil?

What does that do ??

20-07-2006, 11:21 AM
Was just about to say, that on occasion I have substituted my chocolate craving with an extra teaspoon of coconut oil. I stopped having it for awhile, but have been back on it again this week and occasionally the week before. I still find it yummo.
I actually made a LC birthday cake last month for my birthday, and I used a block of the Lindt 85% but it wasn't sweet enough for me, and I did add other sweetner :(
But I will try a LC cheesecake, how do you make yours? Just mix the Philly with melted Lindt and some sweetner? Any cream? eggs?
Chromium, recall hearing about that from other things I've read...as Bron asks? what's it do :D

One thing I must add, because I was so dissappointed with the LC cake I made when it was my birthday, and my son wouldn't eat any and he gets so excited about birthdays, for hubby's birthday I did go to the swiss cake shop and get a small mudcake that had swirls of chocolate ontop, it was delicious :D

I will have a look if I posted how I used to make my choc cheesecake.
Chromium helps with sugar cravings, there is heaps of info here already try a search on chromium, if no good I'll get you some info. I used to take this all the time, I havn't touched it since falling pregnant with Maya and won't untill breast feeding is finished.

From the cheesecake thread:
Before I fell preggo I had been enjoying a chocolate cheesecake, using lindt 85% chocolate and some rich 100% cocoa powder (homebrand believe it or not), vanilla, cream cheese/neufatchel, splenda , cream and gelatin if I remember right.
With that one instead of the poh mix base I make an almond base using almond meal, slivered almonds, coconut, butter(usually use a mix of butter and coconut oil), and a bit of splenda and vanilla and then bake the base in the oven for a little bit untill brown, very yummy!

Actually speaking of Chromium...one thing I must say is I've not been having my vitamins lately. And as I thought Chromium sounded familiar I just had a look at the Bioglan CarbWise multivitamin I'd been taking before my operation and the last ingredient it contains is Chromium (as chloride) 200µg.
And I must say that the only time I found I was chocolate craving pre-operation was when I was just pre TOM. But this month TOM came, cravings came, TOM went and cravings got worse.

Have been out in the garden today, not a brilliant day, has just started raining now, a storm on the way. We pruned the roses - but we have a hell of a lot of them, and also have 6 new ones we picked up the other week which need to be planted, hubby will do that, I'm still not 100%, but I helped with the prune, only stuck my finger with a thorn once and it wasn't too bad, so that was a happy outcome.

Hi Sherrie and Moonstruck thanks for your support.
Suppose things get to us all at some point, anyhow that's life.
Well I've been going great the last week - got myself back into ketosis, have not been tempted to have anything outside what I should be having.
Although had my son quite sick last week - he went to a kids party and ended up with gastro - was at one of those indoor play centres, anyhow now hubby has it, so I've had him home this week as well - think the combination of them both has almost driven me insane - neither are good patients :)
Anyhow weighed myself this morning - and I'm down 1/2 a kilo :D which I'm really happy about...I've even adjusted the ticker, lol...just had to do it ;)
So here is hoping I get to adjust it again soon. I've been drinking over 2 litres of water a day again, and think this has really helped with curbing any hunger pangs as well as my protein rich diet. So keep your fingers crossed for me that I get to change it again soon :D
Saw this somewhere the other day...think its quite true:
Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift and that's why we call it the present.

24-08-2006, 01:03 PM
Son got over it and then hubby caught it and was really sick, but he is also over it too. I was lucky (keeping fingers crossed) and didn't get it - probably because I'm paranoid and almost washed my hands right off my arms, lol. A guy that was contracting with hubby but finished last week went in to see him yesterday and he has been sick all weekend with it too - so seemed quite catchy :(
So all is well here...and I've updated my ticker again:D :D another 1/2 kilo :D
Just thought I'd mention that
But everything is going well, off shortly to drop my son at kinder and having my haircut. It is my 10th Wedding Anniversary today - so hubby bought me an eternity ring - actually picked it up a few weeks ago - my son calls it Mummy's new bling bling - he is referring to the diamonds, lol. And I woke up and when I went to the kitchen there was the most enormous flower arrangement - 20 long stem red roses - I think the arrangement is about 1meter high and almost as wide - it is bloody huge - excuse my French, but very lovely suprise indeed.
So today is a good day :D We are going out for a "family" dinner tonight - thats hubby, son and I to a Turkish restaurant - quite good with all the meat they have for LC and on Saturday night hubby is taking me to Vlado's which is a meat restaurant here in Melbourne :D

He also got a ring...when we went into the Australian Diamond Coy to pick up mine I'd kinda stiringly said to him why don't you get one as well and he ummed and erred for 30 seconds and said okay that would be nice...so he got a ring as well - he is wearing it on his right hand though as he already has the wedding one on his left, this one is a band but it is gold with some white gold bands around it - really nice actually, bit different than alot of the mens dress rings you see around.
We went to the Turkish Restaurant last night - it was really yummy. :D
Thanks thanks for the support - it was only another 1/2 kilo and it was in the right direction on the scales. After the operation I put on a few kilos and it took a bit to loose those again - although if I think about it wasn't too easy as I was still sore and unable to do a heap so I'm happy, although next week is TOM so I'm hoping I don't have any chocolate cravings :(

Well got my haircut last Thursday and am quite dissappointed :( usually a good haircut helps to boost my self esteeme but this one looked pretty crap - colour was too light - I'm blonde naturally but the colour is too uneven and not me at all and don't start me on the cut - feels terrible - so hard to blow dry - am really dissappointed - even bought from the supermarket last night a packet of colour and have just recoloured it a darker shade - it looks a lot more even now so am a little happier - but the cut still bad - and its so short that I have to wait for it to grow to do anything :(
Ohh well - anyhow had a good weekend apart from that - went out for dinner on Saturday night to Vlado's which is if you don't know a "meat" restaurant, hubby has wanted to go there since we started LC diet. We both enjoyed it - although as it is set menu and you don't have to waste time ordering etc you are not in there for the longest of time - so we were finished alot earlier than anticipated so had to find something else to do since my son was being babysat - had to make the most of a kid free evening :D lol - although a couple of times when we were first driving I said out loud that he was being awfully quiet  then it clicked he wasn't there, lol.
I'm not going to weigh myself this week either - it will be TOM in a day or so and I'm feeling very bloated so not to dissappoint myself I'm staying away from the scales
Sherrie
29-08-2006, 10:49 AM
What did you have at Vlados?
Miestar
29-08-2006, 11:05 AM
Well its a set menu - you sit at the table and there is a bread roll - which is yummo looking and really big but we left that.
Then they bring you a salad which is lettuce, grated cabbage and tomato slices in a vinagarette dressing - really tasty actually.
First they bring you a sausage.
Then a plate which had some meat pieces that were all cooked perfectly and consisted of some type of steak, pork (from female pig) if that makes a diff, and some type of liver.
Then they brought around a plate with porterhouse and rib eye on it and you choose what you wanted and then they went and cooked and brought back with more of the above salad.
Then dessert was either strawberries with icecream or strawberries with pancake - but was more a crepe and it had fresh cream and some icecream and also coffee.
We were absolutely stuffed, also had a lovely bottle of wine.
Between the two of us it cost $200 exactly. Was $75 each and the wine we ordered was $45 and we left a $5 tip :D
Vlado is a Serbian name - could also be Croatian. Is Vlado's a Serbian restaurant? The grated cabbage and vinegarette dressing and tomato or capsicum is very slavic. In Serbia we went to this restauant and you can order a meat plate - which I did. Yummo - all the different types of meat, sausage etc were perfectly barbecued.

Yeah sure I could do that.
Not sure what nationality the dude is...could of been Serbian, Vlado is his first name, think it is Vlado Gregurek, the meat cooking it is the same - meat perfectly barbequed.
Vlados is the restaurants name it is 61 Bridge Road, Richmond and they have a website http://www.vlados.com.au - it doesn't tell you much, just their address etc.
It is set menu as well.

Agghhh don't speak to me about it :( The colour is better since I recoloured it - almost call it a strawberry blonde at the moment, although not the colour I would of liked. The cut is driving me insane. I actually got some photos developed on the weekend - 11 rolls that date back 1 year and I was looking at my hair over that time, been seeing the same hairdresser (since I am not working I cannot justify going to one of the salons I did when working $$$) anyhow looking at how she was cutting it - which I didn't mind and how it is now is horrid :( I will just have to wait till it grows, I have fine hair and she has cut it, but then cut into it with those silly scissors with jagged edges and then she tends to cut most after she has dried it hence, she blow dries it and then cuts more and you can't style it how she has cut it because the hair you would normally put in the brush to get same effect isn't there. Just annoying, lol if you can tell - I'm VENTING!!! :(
P.S. Such sad news about Steve Irwin.

Yeah mine is super fine. The shampoo and conditioner I've been using for the past year or so is really great for fine hair - Redken brand and its called Body Full, and I had a favourite mousse which was a Loreal brand Tecnic or something and the one I love they have discontinued :( I have looked for it for the past couple of months and bought 3 others in that time all of which are like putting glu in your hair...anyhow on the weekend the lady confirmed that they no longer stock it and so I had to buy another type to try :( ahhhh having a bad hair day and unable to buy the favourite products is just as bad :(

I used to have long hair - pretty much had long hair all my life up until the last 8 where it has started to get shorter. This current haircut she has cut into the back so much around the neck that I feel like I have a little mullett :(
I even showed her a pic in a hairdressing magazine she had there and said like this only it will be shorter as my hair is shorter, well she ended up cutting my fringe now so it is above my eye brows - I used to tuck it back behind ear and the back is thinned out around top of neck :( I can kind of make it semi decent - for day to day life, but its too short to clip or put up that there is only one way to style :( Its not as though I could go and get it recut somewhere else either because she has cut too much off.

Well I'm considering going back to the salon I was going to before this one. It was really expensive although the cutter I had their had changed to part time and the person I had cutting my hair the last few times there I wasn't happy with either, so if I can get an appointment with her again I'll go back and pay mega bucks :( Although the colourist I had liked there isn't at that salon anymore she is at one of their other ones, so I'm not happy about that. I'll tell hubby he needs to work a few extra hours to cover me going back there, lol.

I remember when we were living in Brissy (my son was under 2 and I went a couple of times to a salon near where we were staying - I was worried taking him, but he was okay, I took some treats and blocks and he amused himself - although I wouldn't take him now - just was desperate for a haircut when we were there and my only option was to take him, but I did let them know when I booked that he would be with me - it was a salon in a snobby area - charged like they were using gold scissors to cut my hair with...lol but it wasn't a bad job.

Hi Sherrie - I'm okay. School holidays at the moment so I'm trying to keep Mr5yo amused.
Weight wise not much to report - I weigh myself one day and the scales have made a slight move in the right direction - the next they have made a slight move back.
I started looking at the ketosticks again the other day to see what I was doing wrong and they indicated the second last colour - so it was almost the darkest purple? But nothing seeming to move in the weight stakes.
I think I'm going to have to start writing down again my carb intake and not just assume the total count for awhile - see if that helps.

Have not weighed myself since last week - will wait at the moment, went away for the weekend and had a few indulgences and its just about TOM and I can feel myself puffing with some fluid retention so don't even wanna stand on the scales at this time because if it is in the wrong direction it is dissappointing.

Hmmmmm what's news you ask:
Well weighed myself this morning - 22.5kg loss - so half a kilo since last week...it was boardering on 1/2 to 1kg but I took the lesser number so that after xmas I won't possibly be dissappointed ;)
Had fun this morning....(INSERT EVIL LAUGH HERE).
Well CL the lovely hubby gets up early, anyhow it was 5:30am and he was down eating his breaky at the table in the kitchen (table is in the family room side of kitchen) reading and had Foxtel on the Weather Channel. So I walked in, he didn't see me - his back to me, and I picked up the Foxtel remote off the kitchen bench and then walked through the kitchen and was in the formal dining room door which is off the other end of the kitchen...so I changed the channel - could see him looking about:eek: , looking at TV, looking into kitchen and the other door which is the passage to front door and bedroom. So I changed it back again to weather channel, again he looked about, looked at tv, looked into kitchen etc., and this went on for about 5 mins, I'd play with the volume, even put it on the Tyra Banks show for awhile - all the time he was looking around. The funny thing was when we were watching tv last night he put it on some show where an American couple had a ghost in their house and needed to call some ghost buster type people, lol  ahhhhh it was funny, eventually I came out - his face went  lol, ahhhhh so that's what I've been upto :P scaring the crap outa CL - works better than psyllium husks :D
Apart from that just shopping for xmas, doing things with our son - yesterday was his last day at his early intervention centre programme - was a bit sad, although he is off to school next year and a whole new adventure.
Poor little thing - I told him on Monday when he was going to bed that he had kinder in the morning and needed a good nights sleep - he only has 4 more kinder sessions left and then its finished, then xmas and then school...poor little thing started to cry, he loves his kinder teachers. So the next morning when he was brushing teeth getting ready to goto kinder, he told me he didn't want 4   I asked what he meant, he said he didn't want to go 4, and I was still a little confused  eventually worked it out, he didn't want to go to the 4th session of kinder which will be his final session because he will be sad :( awww poor little thing.
So that's about it :p

So how was the dinner ?
Hi there...dinner that evening was good...the usual Turkish restaurant we visit on Friday nights - yummo.
From memory had:
Fetta, okra, beans, (I was naughty and had falafel), tabuli, meat - lamb and chicken from spit/giro, chicken covered in eggplant....absolutely stuffed...absolutely delicious :D and absolutely cheap :D

OOO sounds great.... we don't have anywhere like that - I love that sort of food. Are falafels really bad ??

I don't think they are too bad...from memory made from burgel (spelling) chick peas etc., absolutely yummo, think though as they come with a tahini (chick pea) dipping sauce - or half a plate of it, other half of plate is tabuli :D that they probably are not the best thing of the evening :D But yummo.
Weighed myself this morning, have put on 2.5kg since last weigh in, although it is TOM at the moment and we have been having a bit of a feast...Santa bought us the Sunbeam Icecream Maker - the Gelateria one...it has its own compressor and freezes the icecream :D So CL and I made up a few batches of different experiments in icecream...the first was a decaff coffee one, although when we were mixing the custard in the beginning it got to the right point and then we left it go a tiny bit long and it began to separate :( although we still used it and it still tastes delicious. The next batch we made double so we could make a full non-artificially sweetened version for our son...he got vanilla with a little chocolate and added to that were mini M & M's and I cut up some of these Cadbury Elves - they are Cadbury chocolate that have Moonrocks in them, you know the explosive candy...so mixed that through his icecream - he is 5yo and said that it is the best icecream in the world :D The last batch I decided to get a little creative...tried to make a praline/toffee with splenda - it didn't work the greatest, didn't go brown but did reduce and go sticky, so I added a few drops of chocolate essence to give it colour and spread it out on a tray, to that I chopped some 85% Lindt and spread it over and it melted into the toffee mix, then I added some almond slithers I'd just toasted and mixed it about...was yummo and left it to set, then when icecream had churned broke it into or cut as it didn't break like normal toffee into pieces and placed them throughout the icecream - that was delicious. And with the left over egg whites made a pavlova :) So we have had icecream feast and pavlova :)
Yesterday we went down the Mornington Peninsula to a winery that CL's friend runs and owns and we had some wine tastings and then lunch at the restaurant...it was all very nice, but the cheesecake we shared for dessert was probably full of sugar :) Then off to Red Hill Cheese, which is out of the way along a little bush track...tasted some yummy goats and cows cheese and bought a few after the tastings...yummo...then off to Ashcombe Maze where we burnt off a few calories chasing our Son through the mazes - it was good fun as well. Then off to a restaurant we had pre-booked for dinner...didn't look that great from the outside, but inside was really nice, for entree I had ribeye which was rare and spread out on the plate with a little horseraddish sauce...yummmm, CL had stuffed sardines - his looked great as well, for main he had the fish which was really nice and I had the duck breast which was to die for - so tender. The wine was sensational as well, a lovely local cabernet...and dessert we both indulged...it was a chocolate mousse tart so rich as well as some honeycombe which had just been made and a spoon of homemade icecream, can't remember the flavour exactly but it was sitting in some butterscotch sauce....we both had that...didn't share one :p Our son all the time we were feasting had some pasta which he choose and it had lots of shaved parmesan cheese on it...he loves cheese - even stinky cheese as he calls it and he had a raspberry lemonade, some chibata which he dipped in olive oil and followed by a chocolate icecream sundae.
As soon as we got in the car to drive home from Red Hill, our beastly son (AKA Beast) fell asleep...was a great day. So you see I have put on a couple of kilo's which can be attribited to TOM or probably over indulgence :D
Actually just spoke with CL and we are going to the Turkish place again tonight for dinner.

Hi Sherri and everyone else...I'm going fine. Have been very busy organising my wee beastie for school and amusing him over the holidays.
Well he started in Prep on Monday and was quite happy to be there, there was a morning tea for the parents after we dropped them off so I didn't get out of the school on Monday till almost 11am.
Tuesday I went with them - they have already started their swimming programe so on the bus at 9am to the pool and I was one of the parent helpers so helping a group of little 5yo men ;) to get organised when all they want to do is dance in the nuddy is a bit of a challenge but I did it, so didn't get home from school on the Tuesday (yesterday) till amost midday, lol.
Today my son has a day off - part of the getting used to school shorter hours thing, they have every Wednesday off for February. So tomorrow back at school - no reason for me to stay then, but Friday 9:15am a P & F Committee meeting, lol - I think I should be getting paid ;)
Ahhh but its all good, worth it to ensure my beasts transition goes well.
And me...hmmm not much with the weight...it has been paused a little, although went up over xmas and then has gone down a tad, but up a little last week - although we went away for 4 days over Australia day so didn't do real well then - probably all the wine and cheese nibbles that Chicken Legs fed me ;)
Anyhow just cruising along...have been pretty good this week, so hope it shows next week on the scales :D

Hi there still about...have not had much time to get online lately - just been busy but really accomplishing not much.
My son is at school - he finishes his short week this week - so maybe next week I will have some more time.
I've joined a gym - so went 3 times last week and this morning, just trying to fit everything in is so hard. Been doing icypole duty at my sons school which has been fun and going with them as parent volunteer with swimming, and my dad has been taking up a bit of my time as well - he will be here in a minute so can't write much. Got to take him in for surgery tomorrow so hopefully that goes well.
Ahhh so that's about it...I'm still about - have not fallen off the end of the earth yet - too far to walk ;)

My sister suggested the exercise class at senior citz, but I can't seem to get my head around the fact I am a senior citizen Ha-Ha!!!!

Ahhhh Moonie - your only as old as the hmmmm now how does that go man you feel? lol
Yes can be hard to get motivated or allocate time for gym when you have other obligations.
The gym I have joined is a womens gym, its called Contours and it is a circuit of different equipment and you get told when to change equipment so you just do warmup, circuit twice then some floor work and cool down - it only takes around 45 mins so isn't too time consuming but it works up a sweat and you don't have to wait for equipment because everyone changes when the music tells you to. :D

Must be the same as Curves!!!
Yes is similar concepts to Curves - I also have a local Curves and had a look see but it was very small and cramped and didn't look like it would give me lasting motivation. Not saying all Curves are like that - just my local one is.
One of the other mums from school who goes to Contours where I go said that the equipment is similar but different - I didn't get into the mechanics of it with the people there but I'm sure at the end of the day it does the same stuff.
