Has anyone worked out how to take boiled eggs to work, without them stinking out the office as soon as the lid is taken off the container?
Also how do you stop the grey ring around the yolk from happening? Makes it look old and manky!!

Can't help you with the smell...
But I thought the grey ring appears the longer you cook them... anyone else?

Yes grey ring means you cooked them too long.

I find that if you keep them in their shell until the last minute the smell is not that bad. Just means that you have to do the peeling there at work...I don't know, this is what I do...give is a whirl.:D

I have no idea what boiled eggs smell like, I can't remember experiencing that.
What if you made curried eggs or another kind where you take the yolk out, make a mixture and put it back in. That might keep them nice and fragrant.

Yes this is what I do too. No noticeable smell.

Thanks Guys for all the advice. I have just finished dinner in which I had some eggs, and they didn't have the grey ring - Yay!! :) . I usually boil eggs until the water is just about gone because I hate runny eggs - Yuk!. But tonight I just boiled until about half the water was gone and they turned out perfectly. I have a couple still in their shells for tomorrows lunch, so we will see how the smell goes. Thanks Again, RBB :D
when they've finished cooking, run the saucepan under cold water (with the eggs still in it) until they're cool - about 3 mins. This stops the grey ring.

Hi Kegs, yeah I always did the cold water thing but I still got the grey ring, that's why I thought there must be another trick to it. Its seems I was over cooking them - Oh well, we learn something everyday.
By the way it must be quite late over there, how late do you work?
at the moment it's 11.30pm. I start work at 6 and usually finish at around 10.30 - 11pm. Takes 15mins to get home.

It's good you don't live too far away. It's only 8.30pm here at the moment, got some work to do tonight (from home) as well, just waiting for the process to finish before I can get stuck into some reports. :(
wow, 8.30! do you guys have daylight saving? I can't believe I'm about to go to bed and you're sitting up doing work!
Time is freaky!!!!!

No daylight savings. We voted a few years ago now against it. Every year when the eastern states start daylight savings there is always a push to go to another vote, but I prefer not having it.

Oooh I would love that!
Are they anything like Finland where they have periods with no sun at all?

Yeah, and winter in Canada, sun came up at 9am and set at 4pm. Loved that! It would get dark and my body clock would say tea time, but it was no where near tea time! Give me Darwin's approximate 12 hour split any day!

Give me daylight saving anytime!:D
