View Full Version : Redoing the Website

Hey guys I have got a brainwave of late and started redoing the website on my computer. What I am thinking of is this:

Rather then have the articles, links pages as they are now I will take them out of the top menu and add a resources page. In that I will have it branch out into different sections. Say a section on:

Low Carb
Health
Organics and wholefoods
babies

etc..

Then in these sections I'll add other pages on different topics for example with low carb we could have a page on different diets, an induction foods page, pantry/shopping list items, low carb tips, a getting started page, recipes, links, articles etc
Then with certain pages we could also link to a corresponding thread here where people could discuss it and add feedback and suggestions or additional info etc

If anyone has any ideas of what they would like to see here, any sections or topics or other ideas or even anything on what they don't want to see, let me know as it will help me out! :D

What do you think?

Sounds like a good idea.

I support any good information

I reckon a page about the science of low carb and cholesterol might be a good rference too!

Sherrie,

Just my opinion on this, and take it how you will.

But I would more the Feedback and annoucement forums to the bottom, and put the popular discussion forums at the top.

Like leading with what sells if you get my drift

Hey Dave I was actually humming and harring about that but then got distracted with everything else. The reason why is I was planning on putting a courtesy type page (don't want to call it rules because I think we're all mature and old enough) for spamming etc up in the announcements section if we need it and thought maybe up top would be better. But when I think about it I could link to it in the registration sign up page which is easy to do
.
Another reason is I was hopeing for a bit more feedback ;)

But I think you're right.

Bare in mind the forum is still yet to change, I will add/change sections as we grow depending on demand.

Okay I will do it now.

Oh I will most likely bring some pages live today or tommorrow and then add to them as I go and then sometime after that add graphics to everything, I'm leaving that to last because I have already spent countless hours looking at stock photos when I first started it hehe :)

PS: Thankyou Dave :)

Maya is being a real pain atm, not necessarily bad shes just not giving me any 'thinking' time if that makes sense plus Garry is in Brisbane.

Anyway I have made live some of what I'm doing, nothing there is complete but it will give you an idea on where I am going and test some of it. I will add to the pages etc... as I go.

Let me know of any problems, bad spelling etc and if something doesn't look right.
Once I am happy with the content for a little while I will work on the cosmetic stuff like graphics, finish making my own forum template and get gallery lining up properly etc

Anyway flick through the resources section and let me know what you think, problems, suggestions etc...

Sherrie,

I love what you are doing.

On the Atkins page here (http://www.apinchofhealth.com/resources/lowcarb/lcdiets.html), there is a format error

I achieved this by ignoring the generic cup rules during induction and instead focusing on my carb counts and the more lower carb counts of some vegies. Ofcourse after induction you start increasing your carbohydrate counts which again increase your vegie and fruit intake more.

Sherrie, Can I have your permission to quote that section in my blog? Of course I will show all the links and stuff to the site. It's just the kinda of info I need to post on the blog. (Might bring some traffic to your site!) ;)

Ofcourse you can :)

That page will change a bit as once I finish writing a little summary of each diet I may split them up a bit so its not one long page, we'll see how it looks when complete.
If the atkins link changes I will make sure to let you know the new link. :)

Thanks dave, all fixed :)

I should mention there will probably be lots of spelling errors etc as I'm yet to go through it with a fine tooth comb so please if anyone sees one, feel free to let me know and I'll fix it!

Sherrie,

I posetd the entry here (http://lowcarbdave.blogspot.com/2006/07/what-is-atkins-diet-i-have-had-few.html) and I've also put a link to the site on my blog.

There were some grammar mistakes, and actuall a few more words that were stuck together. Also you said in induction they can have unlimited dairy, when it's actually restricted.

But yeah, looks good.

Dave I am pretty sure it says limited, let me check

Sherrie

Yeah I said a limited amount not unlimited. I have no doubts theres lots of mistakes, as I said I havn't gone over it thoroughly at all. I will once I have done more stuff but am happy to fix as I go in the mean time if I notice them or someone point one out.

The reason being is I want to get a feel of how this will look, whats missing etc... as by seeing it up there it helps me get ideas, perspectives etc

For example when I first attempted to teach myself all this I was so overwhelmed by it all and with the obvious distractions I have I found it hard to get my thought processes flowing let alone letting everything sink in, if that makes sense?

I even spent countless hours, days, weeks etc worrying over little things like, fonts, stock photos, graphics etc before I even knew any xhtml of css. Pointless really lol

Anyway it might be just my crazy way of doing things but I find it easier to do things if I have it up there and then just tweak with it after that. Plus the little things that don't require so much concentration I like to leave for when I can't do the things that do, if that makes sense?

Geez I dribble and I hope no-one minds my way of doing it. As I said if you see something feel free to point it out, I honestly won't mind and will happily correct it, makes it easier for me anyhow.

Haha that dribble said, I just noticed dreamweaver has a spell checker, I thought it did but I couldn't remember where when I was looking the other day and low and behold its real easy to find!

No worries - I know what you mean!

There you go, I thought it said unlimited.
