In my CK counter program it tells me that 100g of raw cauliflower is 5.3 grams of carbs but in another program I got from another site it tells me that 100g of raw cauli is 2.8grams, what is the correct count???

Janine Calorie King use an American database and don't subtract the fibre from the carbohydrate count with their fresh foods. I don't know if they still do but they used to insist they did but its rubbish.

Oh and Janine I have emailed foodstandards again to see if I can get something more definative.

oh bugger so in other words I've been robbing myself? I could have been having more cauli than I do??? *pout

well it looks then like they don't take the fibre out....not sure how to check that but I like the program it's what's been helping me get things right with menus....but now obviously not quite right.

Janine can you configure the program to do it for you?

I can add a list of 'my foods' where I add things that I find somewhere else and not listed etc. The program counts fibre so I guess if I can do the deduction using the site and then add that food to my own list.
Soooo I can be sure then that that's what I have to do, I guess I should check some other foods out first huh?

The other list I have is that xl one we got from the other site, don'tthink it's got a name so I can refer to it by name but it's the one where we are supposed to be able to change the quantities if we want! I can't figure out how to do it, I've highlighted the cell I want and used the drop down for that column but it jumps me to other places instead of changing the quantity, do you know how to do it Sherrie?

Let me go find it and have a look

Janine I can't see where you can change the quantity either. Maybe you could add a quantity column?

Janine2203

tks but it's okay I'll just have to use my brain and calculate it! LOL

well duh I just figured out that all I have to do is minus the fibre from the total carbs within the prog itself and add it to my customs food list!

Janine I quickly added quantity fields, let me know if you want it

Your probably thinking of broccolli as we work it out as around 0.6g carbs per 100g.

When you added the quantity fields does it mean I can change the quantity to suit myself?

Also, I can't find broccoli as .6 carbs/100g...where do you get your counts from??? CK has it as 4.6/100 (after taking off fibre)...that other one you just fixed for me has it as 1.778 per 44g. Isn't it on the list 3 of induction?

Yeah I know the 0.6 comes from Food Standards Australia, Diet club/Calorie King used to have the same counts as well before switching over to the American database. USDA and Nutrition Data have the same counts as Calorie King as well.

Heres an old thread on it: Important: Dietclub nutritional info (http://www.apinchofhealth.com/forum/vbb/showthread.php?t=4032)

I never did get to finish that as we lost that whole section at the time which I have since restored since moving to my server. I emailed food standards again last night to see if I can get more info on this.

Regarding the spreadsheet I will email it to you. There is a new quantity column where you put in the quantity after selecting the food item and then it will calculate the new totals in some new columns I put in.

So say you wanted cauliflower which was included as 100grams but you only want the count for 50grams. What you would do is put 0.5 in the quantity or say you wanted 200grams put 2 in the quantity field.

Then it will give you the new cals, pro, fat, carb, fibre and net carb amounts.

Thank you, couldn't find it it was in my spam folder!
So do we have a general consensus on which carb counter is the most reliable?

Sherrie

Well all I know really is that the food standards australia one matches our food labels.

tks for the time being I think I'll stick with CK but deduct the fibre from the carbs and check against the one you fixed for me.

Hi Sherrie,
I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sending me this file too.

I need to start working out my carb totals and although I've been & had a look at the site I like the sound of the extra columns you have put in.

Also I'm a bit concerned when adding quanties that are listed as mils but the site asks for them in grams. If I've used 200ml of coconut cream do I just put 200 grams ? - Another conversion like 1 cup of cauliflower would that be 100 grams.
I can see I need to weigh everything
But anyway, I would appriciate the file if I can have a copy.
Cheers .....Jan

Janal I'll try to find it for you tommorrow (remind me if I forget). If its not on my old back up then I might have to plug in my old hard drive and go through my old emails and hopefully it will be there from when I sent it to Janine.

Janal sorry I forgot :o

I just remembered today whilst working on the getting started thread. I am still trying to find the one I did for Janine but here's the original spreadsheet that Janine and I were talking about. Keep in mind that it is American: http://atkinsalltheway.com/index.php/topic,3502.0.html
