Very interesting. I could not agree more. Why do you think the slimming/dieting industry makes so much money.... it doesn't work and so ppl have to keep reinventing themselves/diet every so often and buying more "diet" stuff.
It is like the lets make you money ppl. The book Think & Grow Rich which the boss has just clutched like a bible (he thinks it is new) has been around in various versions since back when I remember slaes seminars in the early
1980's!! Who makes the money ??? Hmmm I rest my case

Haha pretty sure we have that book as well as others when Garry went through a "get rich" phase lol
Mind you, he did learn some good things from them.

I found the embedded article in that link on the Wii Fit quite good. I didn't bother with the video in the article, but the article is quite witty.:)

Mike from the IF site has a good post on diet book insanity. Here is a bit of it:
"So in this world of diet book insanity, it may be time to say “No more!”. Stop buying into the trends, giving your hard earned money back to publishing/supplement companies who want you to keep buying new diet books or miracle weight loss pills. Stop giving away your control and start to focus on putting it back into your life. It’s time for you to find what does work….and what you really enjoy. Eating shouldn’t be this complicated, we shouldn’t obsess about food. Simplicity is always better. Just keep it simple with the important things and ignore all the crazy ideas people use to make money off you. It’s also no secret that one of the best tools I think everyone should use is to just take a break and fast for a short period of time. Why? Well you let your body retune and reset itself, something it can’t do if you are shoving food down your throat 6x a day. Your body wants a break too sometimes, and will work better if you allow it time off once in a while. Get back your natural cravings and instincts. Let your body and mind start to function better. Get more in tune with the evolutionary design of your body. Let the next time you bite into an apple taste so sweet you will think it was dessert. Start to see life with a new sense of purpose, health and control. Live life to challenge your mind, exercise/move your body, earn your dinner and enjoy the rewards".

I agree in that you shouldn't go on fad diets and expect to lost a lot really quickly, or that you should starve yourself until you can't stand it and go on a binge, however I disagree with this:
From the article: He isn’t advocating that you go and binge on Krispy Kremes, but suggests that if you are active, then you can enjoy a balance of good food — even cake.
I think there are some "foods" that should never be eaten. This would include almost all processed food, especially food made with refined grains and sugar and unnatural fats. Those have no health benefits and only lead to over-eating. The closer the food is to its natural state, the less likely you are to over-eat it. And as Snez says, if you avoid things like that, even fruit can taste like a sweet.

Diets don't lose weight because diets are a brief inturruption to the way you eat.
Change your attitude towards food.
Change your direction otherwise you will end up where your are going.
