Hey all,

I am back after a year. I did the Ketosis diet for 10 weeks and lost 18kg. Unfortunately I went back to my bad habits and a year later I put it all back on plus a few more :-(.

As of Sunday morning I started the Ketosis diet again. I am now determined to lose it again and keep it off. I am disappointed that I was at my ideal weight after many years yet to blow it all again.

Anyway what is done is done.

Have any of you completed a ketosis diet with good results to only put it all back on? If so when you went back on Ketosis how did it work the second time around. I have heard it is not as easy. I doubt not if you do it properly.

I as I said I am determined again to do this for myself and Christ. (I had a very rocky year spiritually and having now found Christ from Atheism I wish to do it to glorify his name).

I have attached an photograph to show you what Ketosis can do. This was after 8 weeks. Yes I am back like the original photograph now but I will get back there.

Definitely a big change there, you look like you had been doing weights which would've helped a lot also.

I maintained fine until pregnancy but I never did go back to the way I ate prior to LC, whilst I introduced some carbs back during maintenance it wasn't anywhere like before.

Wow you did an amazing job and I do not doubt that with your new frame of mind you will get back there again in no time. As Sherrie said the weights will work for you again. Good luck and look forward to sharing your journey.

Once I lose it again it is staying off for good. I was a fool letting it come back on. Oh well I guess it was a lesson that you still need to work to maintain.

How are your diets going?

Congrats on a great first week! From the looks of your results last time I'm sure u won't have any problems at all. Personally, I'm trying my own version of a lifestyle change included low carbs and high protein - only my first week on here, so still experimenting, but hopeful that I will find what works for me =)

It can be used as energy as well stoping your body using your fat reserves. Only have high protein if you are training heavy weights. Good luck. Let me know how you go.

Oh my Golly!!
Dutch you did such an impressive job with ur weightloss-don't panic! U have proven u can do it once, I'm sure u'll do it again!!
I haven't done much reading on Ketosis but I am looking into it! I'm on BodyTrim at the moment and it is a slow, but so far successful change!
Keep us informed and I hope that getting your diet under control also helps boost your spirit!!

Glad things are going well for you...I'm the same as loz in that I'm doing more of a lifestyle change eating less high complex carbs cutting out bread, pasta, rice etc. Am trying to increase the protein but am finding it tricky as I don't really like meat lol

Look forward to following your progress

Hi Dutch, how is it all going this time around? I'm curious about this whole ketosis thing.. Are u able to give a really brief rundown of how you do it? Maybe a sample of what u eat in a day, just to give me an idea.. If its not too much trouble I'd be really interested to read.

Thanks! Loz

Thanks! Loz Hey Loz,

I am going well. Two weeks in. Lost 6kg the first week (some fluid of course). My weigh in is tomorrow so I'll let you know.

No trouble. It gets pretty detailed but I can give you a basic run down. If you want email me at ghalloran@me.com and we can go into more detail.

But the basics are:

I eat below 10g of carbs a day. Two weeks induction period. I normally hit ketosis in about 2-3 days. I use the Ketostix sometimes but I find you can tell otherwise as well. Metallic taste in your mouth, change of smell to your body odour and urine. You'll feel like you have a hangover (alcohol) the first few days while your body gets used to running on Ketones. After that you have feel great.

My diet is normally this:

Breakfast: 2 eggs poached
Snack: Can of Tuna in Olive Oil
Lunch: Breast Chicken or grilled salmon with a small amount of lettuce and cheese with Olive Oil dressing
Snack: Cheese and some Flak Seed Oil
Dinner: Kranksy/salami or something similar with low carbs
Snack: Cheese

I try to eat every 3 hours. I am lucky though because I take most things to extremes being I go silly and eat junk for months, drink too much grog and put weight on. But when I put my mind to it, I can go the other way and eat the above everyday. I know others find it hard.

Once you complete the 2 weeks, one day a week (normally Saturday for me)
you can have a cheat meal. Eat whatever you want. Something high in carbs of course (oh how I long for the cheat meals, haha).

Make sure Sunday morning you get up and start right back into it. I found the cheat meal helped me so much. Kicked my metabolism up and made me burn fat aggressively.

I trained weights fairly often as well and that helped me. Exercise is only 40 mins a day walking. Preferably as soon as you wake up before you eat. Otherwise after a weight workout. Don't do excessive cardio in Ketosis as your body doesn't have the fast burning fuel (glucose) and will use muscle for this. You don't want to lose muscle mass as the more you have the more calories you burn. Just a brisk walk for 40 mins.

Make sure you take a fibre supplement (without sugar) as you'll need it. I take the capsules. Take a multivitamin and have some Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with water daily.

I don't count calories but carbs. Indirectly you eat much less calories in this diet anyway.

Be careful of sugar alcohols (they are often in 'low carb' products) as they work the same as carbs but are not listed as carbs on the nutritional label.

Now diet soft drinks. First time round I didn't have many. One or two here or there. This time I have had a few more. My friend is a bodybuilder and he does Ketosis often. He said diet soft drinks don't effect ketosis at all. This seems true as it hasn't effected me and I am still losing weight. Just go easy on caffine as that can disrupt ketosis. I'll say Sprite Zero. Helps when you want something sweet. If you can avoid though then do so. I just find it breaks it up a little and helps me stick to my diet.

Stay away from gum. Sugar alcohols again (carbs disguised).

Overall that is pretty much it. Limit your carbs to under 20g (I do 10g). Walk 40 mins a day and work out.

Have a goal why you want to lose the weight. For me this time it is to glorify our Lord Jesus Christ. I came to Christ after having a very rough time spiritually. I told myself I can no longer be a hypocrite preaching his word while being unhealthy, overweight and a drunkard. That is my goal. Have one yourself as this puts things into perspective and the only sole reason is not to lose weight. I find if you have this mindset (as I did last time) you feel great once you lose the weight and then go back to your old bad habits.

Hope that helps.

Please email me. I'll send you an email my bodybuilder mate sent to me for females.

God Bless you,

Glenn

Hi Glenn,
Would it be ok for me to email you to get the info for females too? TLP, no worries. Email me at ghalloran@me.com

Update on my diet. Week 2 down today. Lost 2kg this week for a total 8kg lost. Slowing down slightly I think because I am in need of a cheat meal. Found that happened last time as well. Working nightshift tonight so I will have one tomorrow. I found last time that my cheat meals kicked my metabolism along aggressively.

I measured myself as well and have lost 2 inches off my stomach and 1/2 inch around my neck.

10 weeks to go...

Can we please refrain from publishing email addresses on the forum itself, private messages are fine. It is here somewhere on the forum why it's not encouraged, I thought it was also in the forum rules but I just checked and it's not so I will look into that later.

I didn't meant to cause problems. Not sure why it is a problem though as it is my email and I'll give it to anyone. I don't mind who gets it.

No worries though. I won't post it anymore.

hi dutch,

and welcome back! :)

as a matter of fact, a very strict ketosis diet was my very first attempt at losing weight, more than 20 years ago at the age of 15. i did lose very successfully (more than 30 kg), but same as you, i put it all back on and more.... (big surprise!). i never managed to duplicate that first attempt although i tried several times but never lasted long enough. instead my eating habits went from bad to worse.

i guess my point is, it's not necessarily a very healthy and lasting way to lose weight. after all, how will you be able to learn how to change your eating patterns in a way that keeps you at your ideal weight without eating the same menu every day ?

In my opinion, a part of self-improvement is to get to know yourself better, and a part of this is getting to know what your body requires to be in a balance... and i remember vaguely from long ago physics lessons that only an equilibrium can provide long lasting stability  . isn't it amazing how much of what we learn we forget?

anyhow, i don't mean to dis-encourage you, but maybe some food for thought?

cheers,
lea

cheers,
lea Thanks Lea. I totally agree with you. The weight loss is easy for me. The hardest part is the maintenance. I developed some really bad habits over the last 10 years. My problem is not the food but it is the grog. Beer in particular. I drink far too much and I find that makes me gain weight excessively. My goal now is once I lose it again to cut back on the drinking and stop being a drunkard. Without the grog I have no trouble maintaining my weight.
