I like to make up my own food plans and have been in the past. Being a just a kilo off 55kg, I am more concerned with maintenance. What sort of carb, calorie and fat intake should I aim for? I'm thinking 20-40g carb, 1400 cals and have no idea about fats, being new to LCHF. I don't want to overdo these initially in case I get tuned off the plan.
Diet Doktor recommends 5g carb per 100 g food for beginners, but I couldn't find his fat recommendation. Any comments please ?

My GP suggested a magnesium supplement for night time cramps. I am also taking a calcium plus (Caltrate) supplement, which has a 'blessing' of magnesium , but read that one needs 400-1000 mg per day.
Researching into the different types ( i.e. citrate, chelated etc.) I noted that some are better absorbed than others.
So now I'm totally confused and have no idea which brand, strength and type to order, I would like to know which one works for you. I'd be happy if my bowels moved more regularly as a spin-off. ;)

I am a little confused about a higher fat diet as I thought higher fat would increase my BGL. And some mornings, my first BGL test has been higher than I would have expected. Still very early days for me trying low carb and seeing what my BGL reading is

I don't know how fat is meant to be bad for diabetes, I was told but I've forgotten. I'm wondering if it's along the line of - too much fat is bad for you - ?

Hi

I'm glad there is this Australian forum/website for low carb stuff.

I'm just giving this low carb thing a go to see if it will help curb my very ingrained binge eating disorder

I've been trying it for a couple of weeks and mainly found it helpful. I've binged, but not every day, which is what I'd normally do

I'm definitely over weight (obese) and would love to loose some, but my main concern is to cease as much as possible my binge eating - which always includes highly refunded, sugary high fat high salt and chemical saturated foods - junk food.

My friend told me about it and she's finding it really helpful for her binge eating problem.

I know on the days I can stick to LCD I feel so much better, much more energy and not my usual aches and pains

Sorry I've gone on a bit,
Cheers

I have used these forums to start Bodytrim and have completed the 3 day 'detox', but then sabotaged myself when my boyfriend came home for a week :/
I am starting again today with a one day protein only day before reintroducing veggies etc..
I've noticed how supportive these forums are and can't wait to be apart of it all. :) I have lost 19.9kg so far on my own and with a European holiday 6 weeks away I would love to reach 90kg!

Hi I am super confused and hoping someone might have some help for me! I am following the body trim system (via information from a friend) but I am confused about what to look for in a protein bar, I am wanting them to stick in my bag just in case I am caught short somewhere. I am currently having 100g protein for meals and 50g for snacks none of the bars that I have found have 50g of protein in though. One that I have found I can remember the name has only 8g of protein does this mean I should have more than one or just stick to the one in replacement of my 50g protein? I do notice that after one I am satisfied and not hungry but am really wanting to get this right and come up with other snack options!
Appreciative of any info!

Thank you!

Hi everyone,

I dont know what I'm feeling worse about at the moment. The fact that I fell off the wagon in my 5th week on BT, or the fact that I am now carrying more weight then when I first started.

My husbands birthday came along and with him being a chocoholic - his family filled the house with easily accessible chocolate and cakes & everything irresistable to a dieter. I then folded to my TOM cravings and got sick with a viral infection so turned to food for comfort while I felt crappy.

I want to get back on the wagon. I want to succeed. I need to succeed.

I now need to lose 14kgs and I'm feeling so overwhelmed and upset with myself, it's got me wondering if I can even do it.

WM :(

Hi My name is Anna,

Mother of four beautiful babies (although 1 is 12yr) and the others 3 and under.
I have been heavy all of my life and have previously had some success with diet and exercise dropping from 122kg to around 87kg roughly 5yrs ago, then I met my husband and have had three babies in three years which had brought me back to 103kg when I started back to full time work on the 2/4/13.
When I started back to work a college told me about the BT system and passed the majority of the information onto me, from there I have enlisted three of my close friends and we have started our weight loss journey together! I am finding the support from them amazing, but have joined up here to search out recipes and particular brands of things that I should be looking out for. I am also here so that I can finally put it out there into the world that YES I really am "THAT BIG" I don't know about everyone else but I think while I am confident looking on the outside, I'm totally insecure on the inside and think I have spent most of my life pretending that I am not really "that big" when in actual fact I am.
Being over weight has made me feel very insecure in my relationship with my husband (man it's hard to be this honest). I hide away from him and feel very hurt when I feel that he doesn't find me attractive (i think this is mostly in my head), Anyway I want to look in the mirror one day and feel beautiful, I want to know in my heart that I am attractive, I don't want to have to rely on someone else for my self esteem. I also want to know that I can look after my children well into the future and be a good example for them.

I started on the BT system mid April. So far things are going great, although I certainly didn't lose the expected 5kg's in the first week. I lost 2.4kg. Up to date I have lost 3.5kg and 5cm from my stomach area.

I have started to do lots of looking around on the internet also about clean eating but find it very confusing, for now I am happy to stick to the low carbs and am enjoying all of the fresh produce, can't wait though to find out new ideas for sauces or flavors!

I have kept a very honest food diary since the beginning and have been exercising 5-6 times per week, with the Leslie Sansone walk away the pound DVD. I have been wondering if anyone else has had success also with this kind of exercise, I am trying to avoid the gym as I end up going there at 9 or 10pm which burns me out for the next day. I find getting up at 5am and doing my 2mile in 30mins much more manageable however I am wondering if this is enough?

Anyway I guess I don't have to pour all my thoughts out in this one post, but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank
Annax:o

Hi All

I started Dr Aktins again 20 days ago, last time I used it was after the birth of my daughter 10 years ago, and sucessfully lost 10kg fast with no problems.

Recently I have put on a lot of weight - and need to lose 10kgs again! I am in pretty good shape, and during last year did loads of running, spinning - but I ended up with 10 extra kilos anyway...! Its mostly around my hips and belly - I look very pregnant :-( I think I ate too much because I thought I was burning it all off with excerising... stupid me :-(

So 20 days ago I started Dr Atkins again, and with an inital good weight lose of 2½ kilos, I have started putting on weight again.. I am still doing induction, and I am in deep purple ketosis most of the time.

I am pretty depressed about the weight gain, as I am being really strict... I have eaten 2 atkins bars during the last 20 days, as I was sugar craving!! I havent eaten pasta, rice, bread, grains, fruit, sweets, chocolate or chips - anything wrong for 20 days, and the results are so demotivating :confused::confused:

A normal menu for me is

Breakfast : 50g cheddar, 50g pepperoni

Lunch: some sort of meat including the fat, salad, veggies (brocoli & caulifour) olive oil, sometimes an egg.

dinner: some sort meat and veggies (brocoli & cauliflour with extra butter)

Drinks: the odd diet coke, coffee with full cream, 3 liters water a day)

Anyway thats me!

I started doing some research on this last night and am going to give it a try. Seems to be lots of people with CFS/ME that have found it helpful. I checked my hair analysis that I had done a couple of years ago and sure enough I was low in it. The high dose carbonate form commonly used for bipolar has huge side effects and can be dangerous, one of the side effects is on the thyroid so I will be careful but the low dose orotate is meant to be without problems. I find it very interesting that it is antiviral and regenerates the brain with benefits for those with lyme and herpes such as glandular fever, CMV, cold sores etc. Omega 3 and Vitamin E is meant to help with Lithium side effects.

I seem to be reading lots about it being good for Alzheimer and dementia so it may be of interest to you Kel.

Here's one I finished reading now: Lithium

Well its been 2 years since i started my own low carb journey.. Im pleased to say that from the original 10kgs I lost, in 2 years I'm still within 1kg of that weight. I continue to eat low carb but dont follow any set diets or WOE.
Just by swapping pasta and bread and only eating rice (who can resist risotto forever?) occasionally, Ive been able to maintain a healhier lifestyle. I do have bad days and I still drink too much wine/cider but I'm still working at making MY body healther. Im still off the meds that I decided had to go and the Dr. finally stopped telling me to loose weight..
And of course I still learn alot from reading this fabulous site.. Way to go Sherrie for continuing to provide it and monitor it..

Non-surgical treatment of Gallstones

Hi everyone, I'm new to these forums, hope I am more welcomed here than I was at another online forum I asked a similar question recently.

I went on a rapid weight loss programme last year (essentially it was low-carb + low-kilojoule, ketogenic diet) and I shed about 15kg in just under 2 months.
I now have 2 small mobile gallstones. (I did so much research about how to lose weight efficiently and yet I missed that gallstones can occur - kind of annoyed at myself for that).
I am 25 years old and otherwise healthy. Btw, I am now right in the middle of my target BMI range for the first time in years :)

I want to be treated non-surgically first, and if that fails then surgery is always an option later on right. Doesn't make much sense to me to knock a house down just because it has cockroaches without even trying the exterminator first, if you catch my drift.

So basically I have been referred to a general surgeon and a gastroenterologist - neither of whom had any experience with non-surgical approaches to gallstones. My GP is unable to tell me whether a certain specialist considers non-surgical options - which isn't surprising giving he is in one of those big medical centres and their lists of specialists to refer patients to are just lists.

So I am looking for a nudge in the right direction. I don't want medical advice, just to know if a doctor considers non-surgical gallstone treatment. Then I can ask my GP if I can be referred to him or her and let the doctor decide what course of action to take.

If you have had your gallstones treated non-surgically by a doctor somewhere in the vicinity of Sydney or know of a doctor who does treat gallstones non-surgically (or you are such a doctor yourself ) I would like to hear from you.

NOTE: Non-surgical treatments I am considering include oral bile acids (Urso, etc), direct contact dissolution, lithotripsy or even the new Chinese method of using an endoscope and tiny claw to grab the stones and pull them out - although that's a long way to go just to treat gallstones. :P

NOTE ALSO: I am NOT interested in any 'alternative' or 'natural' remedies like flushes etc.
