Serving sizes of fruit and veg on low fat and low carb diets
I was playing around in google today and this article came up which gave me a good chuckle. Apparently our federal government is pushing this "Go for 2 and 5" healthy eating plan which represents 2 servings of fruit and 5 servings of vegetables.
The serve guide from the Go for 2 and 5 site is:
One serve of vegetables is 75 grams or:
· 1/2 cup cooked vegetables or
· 1 medium potato or
· 1 cup salad vegetables or
· 1/2 cup cooked legumes (dried beans, peas or lentils)
One serve of fruit is 150 grams of fresh fruit or
· 1 medium-sized piece (eg. apple)or
· 2 smaller pieces (eg apricots)or
· 1 cup canned or chopped fruit
Now to drum this in even more go to this link below, scroll right down and check out their photo of what an entire days serving look like...

Now I don't know about you but I certainly ate a heck of alot more vegetables then that in a day doing strict LC!
Now okay we wouldn't typically eat as big a serve of fruit as that but when you consider how much more nutritionally jam packed berries are which are our staples no less I would say we beat them hands down there aswell!!!
It just totally spins me out when you hear them all go on about how we don't eat enough vegies etc and then see this, my mind just boggles....
