Where should I stick my bum-nuts?

As the name suggests, where should we store our hen fruit? Whenever we go shopping, we see eggs sitting on the shelves, then when we go home, we stick them in the fridge.

Should they be kept in the fridge, and if so, why don't the supermarkets keep them in fridges?

Is it OK to leave the bum-drops on the bench?

How long will the cackle-berries last with and without refrigeration?

How many other names for eggs are there?

    thanx

Well that heading certainly catches the attention.I have never heard eggs called that before, cackle berries and hen fruit maybe..

It is definetely better to keep eggs in the fridge. Some recipes call for the eggs to be at room temperature so you need to take them out a few hours before needed. Also for a reason I can't remember it is better to store them round side up.
Here is a link that tells you heaps about eggs, and how to tell if they are fresh.

hahahahahahaha you crack me up Bartman!!!! I store mine in the fridge and store them pointy end down. that leaves the air space at the top and is less likely to go off.

There's nothing worse than smelly bum-nuts!

I just store them in the fridge how ever they are in the carton and use them before the usebuy date. You'll find the ones at the back of the shelf always have a month before the useby date.

As far as I'm concerned the only name for eggs is revolting! I hate them! I do cook with them though. I keep mine in the fridge, but then up here we put almost everything in the fridge eg flour, sugar etc as they either clump in the humidity or grow weavels.

Ever seen a chook wee.....? No they don't!

I always store my flour in the freezer to stop the weevils.

I assume chooks are like budgies, they wee and poo in one. (the white is wee!)

(why does it always end with bodily functions?)

Yep that's right. I'm assuming it's the same for all birds. Sorry, don't mean to get onto bodily functions, will behave!

Wink And now for some sensible posting...

Ah Bartman... you should work in direct marketing... people kill for headlines like that!!

The reason why you would not store eggs in the fridge is if you are about to bake with them. The results are much better with room temp eggs.
I learnt a trick from my ex boyfriend (pastrychef) when I was about to make a pav but the eggs were in the fridge. He made me crack the whites in a saucepan and put over a really low heat and stir with my finger to judge when the temp had gone down enough... It was a great pav...

    Mmmmm!!! Pavlova

    Mmmmm Pav.....

I don't suppose you have figured out a lo-carb version.

I hope i'm like everyone, and get cravings for cheesecake - a good ol' New York Baked Cheesecake. It dosen't need any fancy fruit or topping.

I have seen in the Dairy cupboard at Coles, Pura 'pour & chill' cheesecake - it comes in a 1kg tub, you heat it up and pour it into a base.

But, not me!! I eat it straight from the tub (i am on rations at the moment)
