Red face Shining the light on fat levels

It's all becoming clear now....... There's no hiding from the Fitday calculations.

By being a good girl and entering data into fitday I now know that I cannot eat:

Flaxseed oil, POH cereal for breakfast, POH muffin for snack, half avocado with my lunch and salmon for dinner all on the same day.

    Fat levels through the roof!

Maybe on the days I have avocado I can skip the flaxseed (only half joking.....)

All my favourite foods are the most fattening - even though it's good fat. Shame. I'll have to get to like white fish and red meat more.

    Megan,

Fat does not make you fat. I have been eating 109g of fat a day for five months and lose on average .5 kg a week.

Fat is not what you exclude if you are trying to manage your total calories.

You MUST consume the good fats for more benefits than I can list. Of course the majority of your fat should come from unsaturated sources but saturated is not as evil as it is painted when consumed with unsaturated to balance it out.

If you are worrying about cholesterol then stop. Every study conducted for a low fat diet has not been able to prove that diet alone can lower cholesterol much to the dissapointment of the low fat advocates. Diet (low fat) and anti-lipids lower cholesterol but so does just taking the anti-lipids however the medical community will not come out and say that the low fat diet does nothing to cholesterol levels because then they will lose their funding which frequently partially comes from companys like Kelloggs.....think about it.

Hi Sandy and thanks for your reply.

I had it in my head that I should be eating about 60-70 grams of fat per day. That was really the only reason for my concern. But you obviously are eating heaps more than that!

Maybe I just got my wires crossed on the approximate grams of fat to be eating.

I'm sort of glad I'm wrong in that case! Any tips then on how mcuh fat to consume? I am about 5 ft 8 and 67 kgs, with not really much weight to lose.

    Thanks again for your input.

I've been sticking with the around 65-70% fat, around 5% carb and around 25-30% proten and the inches are just dropping off me.

I feel terrific and I look great.

Sometimes my scales even play along

Megan there is heaps of info on this forum on how to work it out. On the home page for POH there is a link for how much protein and fat you should consume.

Have you read Sherrie's getting started post?

I've been through the getting started post in great detail. It answered most of my questions.

I couldn't fing the specific link you were talking about from the home page, but I did another search and found some more posts about relative fat levels.

It looks like I may have confused 60-70% fat with 60-70 grams. Oh well, I can't help being blonde.

Anyway - good news for me! I get to eat all my favourite foods on one day if I want.

Also can I just say that you guys on the forums are great. I would have posted heaps more lo-carb questions but they have all been answered already by one of you.

Hope yuo all have a great long weekend!

You'll find the pie chart in fitday will give you the percentages as you fill it in. Good for planning days in advance!
