    Re: Tony Ferguson Weight-loss Program

Yes Tony Ferguson is a diet consisting of meal replacement shakes full of carbs and very low calorie, something like 700 or 800 calories a day if I remember right. Its just a meal replacement DIET not a lifestyle. If you thought cohens was bad/hard Tony Ferguson will be much worse (my opinion of course)!

Tony Ferguson Diet is definitely a crash diet!

I thought that was what it was. but looking at what you can eat apart from the shakes and soup made me wonder..
a minimum of three cups of vegies two pieces of low GI fruit, and your palm size of fish or meat seems a fair bit.. they say it is 1000 -1200 cals a day...

I remember finding it on the site when discussing them somewhere else, I'll see if I can find it on their site again.

Did you know 4 weeks supply of shakes is over $160?

This was a cut and paste straight from their website when I was talking about it on Daves site a couple of months ago, they must've changed it?

VLCDs include prepared food formulas and a carbohydrate and calorie reduced diet, of approximately 800 calories per day

If you go to the what you can eat page their first paragraph says you replace 2 meals per day, so your only having 1 real meal a day and then just shakes and I assume snacks from 2 servings of fruit?

Its ketogenic even though you eat fruit etc because its so low calorie, I *think* you would be lucky to even get near 1000 calories a day on it, wonder if they have the nutritional info for their shakes so I can do the sums....

The Tony Ferguson Weight Loss program consists of replacing 2 meals per day with our meal replacement formulation. You then include 1 serve of “palm sized” protein, (refer to list of protein), minimum 3 cups of vegetables (refer to vegetable list), 2 servings of fruit (refer to fruit list), 2 litres of water, and any extras from our ‘extras list, into your daily diet.

    Sample menu from their site:

Breakfast = 1 meal replacement drink, multivitamin and their own fibre supplement.

Snack = 1 piece fruit from their list

Lunch = 1 meal replacement drink and 1 cup of salad vegies from list

Snack = 1 piece fruit from their list

Dinner = 1 peice of palm sized protein (in width and thickness), 2 cups of vegies and for desert 1 diet jelly

Extras: selected herbs, spices, flavourings, stock cubes, dressings, sweeteners and diet jelly that are on their list. They say you can have vegetable soup as an extra but then say the vegetables have to come from your 3 cups of vegies so can't really call it extra.

Okay Shirley sent me a photo, its a bit hard to read so hopefully I get it right:

    Strawberry Shake:

    Per serve (52g):

    Energy: 851kj I think is around 203 calories (I divided by 4.18)
    Protein 17.4g
    Fat 2g
    *Sat 1g
    Carb 28.2g
    *sugar 25.6g
    sodium 1.66mg

Then it has vitamins, some in very miniscule amounts...

Now the ingredients I'm not 100% sure on I have put in italics.

Ingredients: Milk solids, fructose, vegetable fat, Glucose, Skim milk (I think)solids, maltodextrin, thickeners (407,1442) flavours (wheat derivatives), colours (162), minerals (magnesium oxide, ferrous sulphate, zinc oxide, pottasium iodide), flavours (wheat derived), colours (142b or 162b), emulsfiers (339, 471, 472c, 450), vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, E, Folate, Niacin), Free flow agent (551), antioxident (306)(soy derived).

    Low calories!

Put it this way those shakes are 200 calories so your breaky and lunch = 400 calories which leaves you with 2 fruit snacks and 1 dinner to get the rest bare in mind from what I can tell theres no fat....

I'm not sure how much a palm sized peice of meat would weigh so lets use the low fat cottage cheese and 2 eggs cooked in water as an example of dinner...

200g of average low fat cottage cheese = 180 calories

    or

    2 x medium boiled eggs = 146 calories

All that is left to get calories from is 2 pieces of fruit and 3 cups of vegetables... oh and a diet jelly which pretty much has none... I will be generous and look for the nutrient and calorie dense options....

So lets say we go by their example...

    Breakfast: Shake = 203 calories

Snack: Med Apple = 74 calories

Lunch: 1 shake (203 cal) and 1 cup of salad vegies 76 cal = 279 calories

*now hard to say exactly how many calories for 1 cup od salad but lets see, 1 cup of cos lettuce = 10 cal, 1/4cup of avocado(max allowed per day) = 56cal, 1 cup of snowpeas = 41 cal, 1 cup of chopped tomato is 32cal

So lets be generous here and say the salad is 1/4 cup avocado, cos, chopped tom and snow peas which gives us around 76 calories... *

Snack: Med Nectarine = 46 calories

Dinner: 200g low fat cottage cheese (180 calories, lets be generous) and 2 cups of vegies (80 cal), 250ml of diet jelly (13cal) = 273 calories

*okay another tricky one but lets choose 4 vegies and do half a cup each of what I can get cup values of and I'll be generous and look for cooked values. 1/2 cooked zucchini is 14 cal, 1/2 cup cooked mushroom is 22 cal, 1/2 cup of cooked eggplant 17 cals, 1/2 cup cook broccoli is 27 cals.

    So vegies = 80 calories*

    So lets up this up... 203 + 74 + 279 + 46 + 273 = a grand total of...

    875 calories

Now that is as nutrient dense as I could get it, I used cooked measures of vegies where as people are really going to go by uncooked measures and I included avocado which is as calorie dense as you can get vegie wise... Now I should note you are allowed to add an extra 100 calories from the allowed list if you need to but we are still coming under 1000 calories....

lets say 100g of lean beef is palm sized that is still only 192 calories, they are obviousely aiming for under 200 calories other wise they wouldn't limit you to 2 eggs and go for 3 which = 219 calories.
