    Breast vs. thigh.....

I have always just bought chicken breast, never thighs, but I'm looking for a way to cut down my shopping bill and noticed that chicken thighs are quite a bit cheaper than chicken breast, so here's my dumb question......

Is there much difference in the taste?

I've only ever eaten thigh from a BBQ chook and BBQ chook tastes so different to chook cooked other ways.

I always buy the chicken thighs, i reckon their tastier. If theyre on special i buy a kilo and freeze them separately. The breasts are better if you want a nicer presentation, say if youre having people over for dinner. But if its for your family, thigh is good. Although keep an eye out when the breasts are on special. As seen on tv last night, grab a chicken fillet, grate some parmesan (or something similar) on top, put on a couple of slices of thin prossuito (spelling?), put in a sandwich bad and bash it with a frypan or mallet. They fry it. My hubby is cooking that tomorrow night.

Cool thanks. My girls LOVE chicken, so if thigh tastes better, they should love em.

Thighs are actually better for most cooking because they don't dry out like breasts do, having said that I don't like the taste. However I do eat them sometimes in curries if the curry is good enough and I like the cacciatore that Garry makes which uses drumsticks.

I just went to the supermarket and I looked at the thighs, but I didn't buy any. I have a very weak stomach and they just didn't look good at all. This is something I may need to work on.

ROFL Bashing chicken with a frypan or a mullet? Lauren, what shows are you watching, dear?

Fi, I NEVER buy breast because it's not as lip-licking succulent as thigh meat and dries out way too quickly. I like the stuffed chicken thighs a lot, with parmesan/feta/tapenade etc. in them but in order to cook them right the way through they would have to be cooked for longer than the breast could withstand.

Hi Fi, Breasts and tenderloins are on special at Woolies at the moment for $10.95 a kilo. Just bought some tenderloins and I just cook up about 6 so you can eat them for snacks. There were 16 in a kilo so I am thinking about 1.5 for 100 grams. Close enough for me. I always buy breast meat. Not to fond of the thigh. Julie

    Hi everyone

In order to keep chicken breast from drying out when in the oven, i use oven bags - they keep all the juices running around and it never dries out!

    Hey Fi,

I posted in another thread when I saw that you were there, but I was just saying hi, and seeing how things were going.

I am not sure if you even remember me from CK. Are you still doing CK?

Im a breast girl myself. Dont like drumsticks, or thighs. And didnt like wings until a week ago when I made the parmesan nibbles with them. I just try and stock up when they are on special, and I buy the bulk ones and then stick them into zip lock bags and freeze.

Thigh girl myself. Don't like breasts, I think they are dry and tasteless, so we always use thigh fillets here.

Thigh Fillet Mignon - flatten a thigh fillet, spread on a mix of butter/herbs/garlic, roll it up and wrap a piece of bacon around it. Secure with a small wooden skewer, Bake for 40 minutes @ 180c. Yummo.
