    Hello from James in Brisbane

    Hi everyone..

Just found this forum when doing a search for reviews of the Tony Ferguson shake diet.

Have decided to give the low carb diet a try instead. It sounds much more realistic in the long run.

I am 6 foot tall and weigh in at 119 kgs. My goal is 80 kgs eventually, but will be happy to get to 110 as my first milestone.

Am heading overseas at the end of this month to teach English so have to educate myself to what I can and cannot eat before moving there.

Anyway - I have a lot of threads to read back through and am looking forward to sharing my journey with all of you

    Cheers!

PS: Here is me now.. 119kgs and a bit gloomy

Hello James and Welcome, You've certainly come to the right place for support and encouragement. It's a great forum.
You'll of course be able to keep us updated when you move overseas.
Low carb is a also a great choice for the long run.
If you have any questions feel free to ask away.
    Cheers

Re: Hello from James in Brisbane

Thanks Janal Nice to meet ya

I'm going to start my first day of induction tomorrow. 3 days of meat, eggs, tofu and cheese.

Breakfast: Leg ham, 2 egg whites, decaf coffee with cream
    Snack: Cheese and lettuce 'rollups'
Lunch: Small can of tuna in spring water, 2 egg whites, lettuce
    Snack: Slices of Roast Beef
    Dinner: Steamed veges, chicken breast
    Snack: Diet Jelly, whipped cream

    Does that sound ok?

It sounds like a fairly easy regime to stick to. The first 3 days are going to be hard. Im a serial snacker and always have something to 'munch on' close at hand.

My father died last month of cancer and I want to try and do my best to avoid any degenerative illnesses like that. Defeating my obesity is number one on my list!

    Welcome James

Is there a particular low carb diet that you have planned to follow? Men do really well on Atkins. Whereabouts overseas are you headed?

Is there a reason that your choosing just egg whites instead of whole eggs?

Re: Hello from James in Brisbane

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

Jo - i figured putting my pic here would be a motivator for me to lose weight and also inspire some other guys out there who are considering this life-change. Im also thinking ahead and plan to post my during and after pics as well..

Sherrie - I actually did the Atkins diet a few years ago and lost about 18 kgs. Unfortunately it was a bit too easy.. I know that sounds crazy but when I messed up and my weight didnt change for a long time - I just got complacent and was soon back to my old habits.. I used to work night shift and ate bad food at all the wrong times of day. That and my notorious sweet tooth saw me putting all the weight back on plus another few kgs for good luck

My basic plan is to eat whole foods, no processed meat, heaps of salads and as few carbs as I can.

I chose egg whites only because I find the yolks kind of gross.. Had a bad experience as a kid when I found a chicken beak in my egg yolk one day ..! I guess I could always scramble them?

Im heading back to Taiwan in February. I was there in 2007 and had a fantastic time teaching English. Sadly I had to come back to Oz because Dad got real sick.

Daisy - I do part time catering work. It's real easy work and pretty good pay. Thanks for your kind words. I miss him a lot but know that he will be a big inspiration in the tough days ahead. Just need to be strong while I break the sugar habit! It really is addictive I think..

Hi James, Why don't you come and join in on the induction challange that is currently running

    http://www.apinchofhealth.com/forum/...t=6381&page=12

You might want to go back to the beginning of the thread and try and have a quick read up.
Induction is usually 2 weeks, Body trim is 3 days.
So if your doing Atkins (LC) this would be a great start and support area for you.
    Cheers

Re: Hello from James in Brisbane

Wow what a fantastic welcome - thanks everyone..

Well Im on day 3 of my warmup/induction

I say warmup because I have slipped a few times.. On day one we went to the pub for dinner and I had lamb shanks in tomato sauce on mashed cauliflower. Im pretty sure there must have been sugar in the sauce because it tasted kind of sweet..

And yesterday when waiting at the phone shop I absently mindedly ate 2 x minties while standing there...! Isnt it amazing how you just automatically go back into the old habits?

Last night I cooked an awesome fish chowder style soup - very creamy! zero carbs and tasted awesome. I served it with steamed cabbage and it was great.

Cooking up a big slow cooker pot of lamb shanks with tinned tomatos, onion, olives and vege stock - the house smells great!

Thanks for the link Janal, Ill definitely join up the challenge

JulieH - we can eat cheesecake??? Is this the best diet ever? haha Please send me the link
