    Carb addict starting low carb commitment

    Hi everyone, I am new here and I am on a new low carb journey, but over time I have found myself to be really addicted to starchy carbs like white bread with margarine, pastas, doritos etc.

    I have done Tony Ferguson a few times, only to find my insides all stuffed up in some form or shape and I think that awful program is part of the reason why I can't seem to last a day without having some sort of affair with the carb

    I am really giving it my everything, but I am not how I can continue with this urge to ruin low carbing by geting a fix of the carb stuff. It really makes me sad and feel like giving up sometimes.

    I just really want to stay on track, so any tips to help my body deal with the withdrawal of this terrible carb addiction would really be appreciated.

    Welcome Butterfly Nat!

    Is there a particular low carb plan you are thinking of following (assumming you have given TF the boot)?

    I am more a sweet tooth but there's lots of non starchy alternatives such as low carb pizzas, oopsie rolls, zucchini or shiritaki noodles for pasta, low carb crackers, potato
    bakes using cauliflower instead (don't knock it until you try it!) etc

    Have you looked through the recipe section here?

    I was also a huge carb addict , and honestly believed I could never change that . Well that was before I discovered Atkins and most importantly this forum . The first week for me was the hardest , you will get over that little hurdle and then it will become so much easier .

    What plan are you following ? Please feel free to ask any questions that you have about LC , Sherrie is very knowledgable and will help you out . There are so many wonderful supportive members here , just so willing to help out as well .

    Thanks for your replies and welcomes.

    I will check out the recipe section for ideas

    I have bought 5 weeks of the ultra lite program. Only as a starter to LC and then after the 5 weeks do my own thing. I have noticed that the protein isn't too high, just a serve per meal (ie.chicken.eggs) as well as the carbs kept to a minimum. The snack sachets have 3g or something around that of protein, im thinking that might not be enough.... well it might not be since im craving crap.

    I hope that I reach the point where I no longer crave these foods and the end of another 'binge'. I guess I just got to get back on the horse and keep at it.

    If there are any suggestions to tweak my ultra lite experience, I am more than happy to hear it. If eating more protein will help me stick to LC then so be it. I think in the end it's what works for your body.

    I shall keep you posted on my progress. Just wanting to shed the extra kg's but more so this addiction to starchy foods.

    I too struggle with restricting carbs. I've tried Bodytrim and also Atkins but on each one really missed fruit and with Bodytrim I struggled to eat protein every few hours so am now doing a sort of combination of both.

    With any of the low carb plans I struggle with the initial restriction phase so never seem to get past that first 3 or 4 weeks. After discussing this with my doctor she has agreed with me that white processed carbs are bad for me but instead a brutual cut I should try to eliminate them gradually.

    At her suggestion I have cut out all pasta and rice to start with. I only have one slice of bread each day and that is with protein and it is wholegrain. After a couple of weeks I will eliminate potatoes and the higher sugar fruits so my diet will consist mainly of lean protein, vegetables and some fruits and small amounts of soy milk. This seems to be working for me, I've been following this for a couple of weeks and usually by this stage I'm starting to feel deprived ... wanting ... thinking what the hell ... AND GIVING IN. This time I don't feel any of that so hopefully I will eventually get to LC and stay there.

    Sherrie - the reason I have soy milk is because I like it. I also eat tofu as I am one of the strange people who actually likes soy. I know you definitely don't advocate the use of it and there are several articles on this website which show why we shouldn't have it but surely I'm allowed one vice ?????

    Hi ButterflyNat,

    I was so like you when I started lowcarb. I was a carb addict, I love my bread, rice, pasta, noodles...The first 2 weeks of my low carb diet was just removing my daily 2 pieces of toast and vegemite, which I had eaten religiously every daya of my life for 20+ years. I absolutely loved it and looked forward to waking up just so I could eat it!

    The first 2 weeks were tough, I felt like crap, felt tired and irratible, but I lost a lot of weight so I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. The only way to beat it is through sheer willpower.

    Your subconscious telling you that you need those foods is just a memory replaying over and over again...So when it appears you need to clean that memory out. And thats the way to clear your subconscious.

    It's explained reaelly well in Joe Vitale's book: Zero Limits (link to amazon)

    It's a bit of a mind shifter, but I've found that process to be really beneficial in my life, not only for weight loss but for things like anxiety and how I perceived other people.
    February 2009: 87.5kgs (< 20% body fat)

    Thank you for your replies. I am just going to take it one day at a time.

    I did make a few dishes.. oopsie rolls and the baked cheese muffins. Muffins were very nice and i forgot to put in a pinch of tartar when making oopsie rolls...oops.

    Thanks for the book suggestion. I got a copy and read it...very interesting reading. Also read Mabel Katz book too.

    I'm not on it at the moment. Fell off the wagong Just taking a break and taking LC things slowly. The recipe ideas part of the program is okay but their snack sachets are pointless.

    Why is soy bad? I did a search and couldn't find much on it.

    Going to experiment with coconut milk in my cooking next
