    Veges and salad on induction

Hi everyone, I am very sorry to repeat this question - I know its been asked and answered but for the life of me I cant find it now

I'm on the 3rd day of induction and going well, but not sure if I am eating enough salad and veges and how the carbs are worked out. Do we still do the 3 cup method or not. I am currently entering everything in to calorie king but I remember reading somewhere that its not accurate, is that right

I basically only eat lettuce, cucumber, tomato, cabbage and avocado at the moment (trying to keep very simple and I am not a big vegetable fan).

Sorry to be a pain but I read the DANDR last night as well and not sure that really clarified it for me either

Thank you for your patience with me
    Cheers
    Nic

If you use food standards and choose wisely, you will find you can fit heaps of veggies into your 20g allowance much more then the 2-3 cup rule allows:

Yea CK is ok although you do have to watch the fresh food section, if it's packaged it's usually ok but if it's salad & vege items you need to subtract the fibre from the carbs as they use an american database for these items. We don't count it that way here.
I still like CK for it's ease of use.

Hope I got that all correct

Hm. So does this mean that the carb count is higher than it really is? If you change your preferences to include the Carb count AND the ECC (Effective carb count) doesn't that subtract the fibre for you?]

That said, even with the ECC, calorieking tends to not note the ECC of a lot of foods, so I wouldnt assume the ECC is your total carb count.

Re: Veges and salad on induction

DANDR counts Nett carbs - this is total carbs including fibre, less the fibre as in the US their nutritional information includes fibre in total carbs. In Australia our nutrition panels don't include fibre in with the carbs it is listed separately. So using an americal nutritional diary tends to include the fibre in total carbs and you need to subtract that for your nett carbs. I don't use CK so not sure of individual settings available for ECC.

I weigh most of my foods and have figured out the carbs for my every day foods (salads @ lunch, etc.). Now I've started using an online nutrition diary it is also logged in there. Until recently I wasn't recording or tracking exact carbs per day as I've lost on Atkins before and knew about what I needed to eat to loose. Now I'm getting to the pointy end of things I want to know more information like actual carbs & calories so I've started using a nutrition diary. Hope that helps, kind of feel like I rambled a bit of-topic.

Even when fibre is factored into it Australian food standards tend to give less carbohydrates as they calculate the actual carbohydrate counts where as the Americans don't. For example, compare what an American net carb is for broccoli to the Australian count of 0.6g per 100g

I realised (when I came to do another post ) that I never said thank you guys for your replies - how rude of me !!

    So thank you all

I must admit I am still a little confused (I think I must be a bit thick ) but I have found a list of carb contents from when I did ultra-lite (for about 3 days ) awhile ago so I will go off that and hoping that is correct - they also had a limit of 20g a day as well. I definitely do have room to eat more veges from what I can see so thats a real bonus

    Thanks again
    Cheers
