Hi everybody!
My name is Cara, and I'm from New England. I really liked the layout of your forum, and from what I saw everybody seemed really nice and friendly and resourceful so I decided to join!
I've more or less been dieting my whole life. During the years when I was at uni I developed an eating disorder, and that kind of ruined a better part of 8 years for me. Since then I've gotten better, but I've still always had a huge love hate relationship with food.
Two weeks ago I read Gary Taubes' "Why We Get Fat: and what to do about it". It completely flipped around my views on food. Shortly after that I cleaned out my cupboards and started a low carb/keto diet. So yeah, I've been doing low carb dieting for about a week now. I try to keep my net carbs under 20. Once I reach my goal weight I intend on switching over to a paleo diet because I seriously love sweet potatoes and squash and veggies and things that are still a bit too restricted for my liking on a keto diet. High fat and protein are here to stay though.
And honestly, even in this past week my energy levels are AMAZING. No spikes and no dips. Just solid steady energy all day long. And I have a pretty active, on my feet all the time job. I probably spend at least 6 hours a day walking around. I can go for HOURS without getting hungry, or if I do get hungry it's super easy to push the thought aside and wait another hour or two before eating. Before, if I got the idea that I wanted food in my head it would just get worse and worse until I ate. I've already lost 7lbs, though I'm sure a good chunk of that was water weight.
I'm happy and excited about food and living healthy for the first time in my life!
