Safe Sodium levels?
Does anyone know the 'safe' level of sodium per 100g in foods? i.e. OK to include in food plan. I know a lot of salt is used to smoke foods and I do enjoy most of these, but will give them a miss if they pose a problem.
I avoid processed foods, prefer to make my own soups, etc.
Thanks if you can help with my research.
Too easy to find this information on the net. So here's what I found:
recommended intake 1200-2300mg per day (about 1/2 to 1 tsp max)
When looking for low salt foods re. labels , 120mg/100 or less is best.
Now my question...should one be concerned if there is no high BP?
Here's a list of high salt foods (mg /100 levels)
bacon 2500
processed cheese 1189
parmesan 1862
saltine crackerts 1100
dill pickles 1428
ham 1100
potato chips 1000
frankfurt 1100
olives 1300
