LOL

Cardiologist, wife create diet heavy on chocolate, light on sugar

Anyone else think this couple are sponsored by brands such as splenda and Hershey's? I think so!!!

Re: The Cardiologist's Wife's Chocolate Too! Diet

maybe but it is interesting - splenda is the sweetener of choice, i agree but i am sure there are other cocoas just as good as the hersheys - i have a packet of raw cacao powder which is touted as the mayan superfood - full of antioxidants

i especially like when he says "Even in some low-calorie diets, the doctor cringes at the amount of sugar typically allowed."

the next sentence is "Likewise, he was alarmed at the prevalence of low-carb/high-protein diets, "that still had way, way too much saturated fat to be healthy. As a cardiologist, I think they are bad to the point of being dangerous."

I am still not convinced about saturated fat being good for you in low carb diets - the jury is out on that one for me - i agree with the "good fats" but the others - yum i agree, but healthy?

I find it hard to believe that the Hershey's cocoa powder is the least processed out of all, including ones you'd find in an organic store. Granted organic doesn't always mean anything and probably much more so in the U.S. but still...

With saturated fat, I'm not convinced it is unhealthy the way everyone claims, vegetable oils seem to scare me more.

For me I'm convinced.

There are so many produced foods out there, that the saturated fat in meat and cheese seems rather tame compared with fats in a donut of hungry jacks onion rings! Bleah!

Re: The Cardiologist's Wife's Chocolate Too! Diet

I have to admit I still baulk a lot at fat - I wont add oil if I can avoid it and I am careful with butter, cheese, mayo and the like BUT I am definitely not restricting them one bit and I consume about 100g of fat a day which seems to work. My skin has improved out of sight for it and is no longer dry and flakey.

I highly doubt Hersheys would be the most unprocessed cocoa out there - Im open minded though I would love to see the proof

Sponsored - for sure LOL

thats true but i don't think comparing one "bad" fat against another is a fair valid comparison
some of us never eat processed foods anyway - never really have done
the amount of fat - eg pv's 100g is fine depending on what it is

i know for a lot of people cholesterol goes down, health improves, but i am still not sure
i would prefer to consume vegetable oils made from plants such as olives, macadamia, coconut
i love th taste of the animal fats of course - butter, pork, bacon, the whole lot -yum - but just still very uncertain regarding their health benefits for me personally

Nice to know I'm not the only one with the issue on fat. It's really hard to believe that something that you've been told for so long is bad for you, is actually good for you.

I just lost 56 pounds on this diet with no cravings. It's being called the best new diet of the new century. On TV I saw the couple who wrote it getting interviewed. The doctor is a U.S. Dept of Health cardiologist and his wife is a nutritionist. They kept emphasizing that the cocoa (yes, cocoa, not commercial chocolate) you get HAS to be unsweetened and non-alkalinized. They gave the names of 3 good brands of pure cocoa: Trader Joes, Whole Foods/Wild Oats, & Hershey's (little brown box in bake aisles)... but any brand is fine as long as the LABEL says unsweetened and non-alkalinized. (Alkalinization destroys the antioxidants). Cocoa has 29 times the antioxidants as broccoli, ten times more than blueberries.

And it IS a diet for diabetics. They're both really thin. The doctor said everyone should eat a diabetic diet, it's really the healthiest.

How 'bout that? I LOVE this diet. It has saved my life, I'm no longer pre-diabetic, don't need meds, and I'm exercising every day. I'm a new person.

Wish you all good health,
AtLastThin (& soo happy)

Re: The Cardiologist's Wife's Chocolate Too! Diet

Okay Moonie just showed me this:
Quote:
Dr. Robert Schneider is a cardiologist so meals have to be heart healthy. On the menu for him and his sweetheart Joyce this Valentine's Day-- chocolate.

"Look at that, just look at that... no fat, no sugar."

That's right... The chocoholic couple has written a book full of low-fat, sugar-free recipes called the Cardiologist's Wife's Chocolate Too Diet.

Truffles and brownies are made with oats, egg whites and of course chocolate... which isn't just for dessert.

"You can actually add it to almost any dish," says Dr. Schneider.

It can be sprinkled into spicy chicken and broccoli.

Or how about...

"Chocolate chicken stroganoff!" suggests Joyce Schneider.

We've heard chocolate is healthy, but at every meal?

"Only if you get the right kind," explains Dr. Schneider.

Dark chocolate contains heart-healthy anti-oxidants. But in a typical box, the chocolate also contains loads of sugar and fat which can hurt the heart.

And in America we mostly eat processed chocolate which is stripped of any anti-oxidants.

The Schneider's solution-- only use unprocessed, sugar-free cocoa. It's loaded with 10 times more anti-oxidants than blueberries.

"Chocolate is a miracle drug," says Dr. Schneider.

The bitter chocolate is sweetened with sugar substitutes to create a tasty treat.

"It does away with the boredom and the cravings that do in so many diets..."

And it's a healthy way to satisfy your sweetheart's sweet-tooth.

Low fat and chocolate strogonoff? I am all for chocolate but LOL LOL

Can I just continue eating LC and have a square or two of Lindt 85% or if thats alkalinized then something similar after my meals or if they contain dairy say before my meals instead?

These chocolate meals you have, do any of them contain dairy?

In regards to the low fat aspect of it, I do not believe all the anti-fat and anti-cholesterol hype. There's many benefits to having both fat and egg yolks in your diet.

Hello Jeffrey and welcome - not sure what PFO has to do with low carb though, you might need to explain further

Re: The Cardiologist's Wife's Chocolate Too! Diet

I have a lot of saturated fats. Breakfast this morning was left over roast pork with crackling. It gives me heaps of energy. It fills me up. It makes me feel better than I ever did with carbs in my system. My circulation is improving, I can see it in my feet, they aren't as dry as they used to be, and I still wear the same sandles.

If I eat enough fat I can exercise for 3 hours in one day, without getting tired. Who would really want to do low fat?
