In doing some googling for @Sandran I came across some interviews on an Australian Radiologist Troy Stapleton whom developed Type 1 Diabetes at 41 and soon began managing it with a low carb diet. I think its great to see more Doctors in Australia now recommending low carb and their own personal stories with diabetes. For many years all there was, was an American Type 1, Dr Bernstein. With the DAA being so seemingly ignorant I think its important to share these kind of personal stories to help others.
Of course any diet change for a diabetic needs to be supervised by your Doctor, that goes without saying.
Here's some videos and a radio interview with Dr Troy Stapleton
